I think there are more good than bad people. Depending on what kind of apocalypses your theorizing could change scenarios easily. re-establishing rule of law would start locally with groups of good people banding together setting some sort of order. We only talk about it because we all see that thin veneer of civility getting thinner. would I survive? I have a few plans but I don't really want society to break down to test! Mostly I just want my Grandchildren to be free and safe, and that Friends is worth all I have!

One thing that always gets to me about a western movie (fiction) where a group of bullies or a single bully/bad guy, whatever, takes over a community, cowering them into submission, is that the whole community together outnumbers them, has guns, but just lets them have their way.

Now maybe this is how some people would react, maybe not. But I can't help but think - watching the fictional portrayal, that all they have to do is pick off the bad guys one at a time, or if just one guy, shoot him in the back with a rifle from a distance, or bushwack him with a shotgun - whatever works. The bad guys don't have eyes in the back of their heads and ambushing them could work well.

In a country where the guns outnumber the people, putting oneself out there as a marauder in a SHTF scenario, is just asking to get shot/stabbed/run over with a car - just plain killed then hung from a light post with the sign "Sic semper tyrannis" (or something to that effect) around their necks.

I have family and I have friends with whom I would trust my life.

I have one or two i might trust. But definitely not a single family member..
Friends AND family basically haven't prepared one iota. I don't think being just a friend will be the magic key especially when they have a dumb bubblegum leftist wife and two kids are kinda basket cases. Also a bad sign that even though I've known them most of my life. They are bad decision makers and will need to make snap judgement calls probably on their own. Id almost rather be solo.

Really, you are correct. But it depends on where you live. I think unfortunately you never REALLY see the true heart of people until they are at their worst. Unfortunately i think the days of grapes of wrath and the great wars are over. Where humanity shoulders the burdens as a whole. The mechanization of man HAS somewhat turned us against ourselves. The mind of man was easily conquered into thinking other men are the problem. Look at what's going on all around..
But dear god, i hope I'm wrong. A sudden Carrington event would be the worst. Would make world wide economic collapse look like a sunday picnic.

So you can see how strong bad people are a threat, weak bad people are a nuisance, and weak good people are a burden.

And strong bad people are not truly burdened by the weak , either flavor.

Not to sound callus, but i also dont want the emotional agony if something were to happen to those a i care about. Call it selfish (it is) but its kinda also a major factor why i don't even care to try and find a significant other. One of the scariest thoughts is that i actually find someone i truly care for and then to watch if something were to happen..
