One thing to keep in mind is much of this is your typical cyclical nature of the environment.
Biggest issue is the clowns in CA who tried to make the PNW from a semi-arid desert.

Usually the biggest problem is that there is plenty of water its just not int he right places for use and much of it is wasted in protecting Salmon, orcas or what ever flavor of the month the enviro wackos want us to be wasting resources for.

A lot of junk science in that article. But then again its the clinton news network, Regulars at pushing junk science.

Wonder what they would say to the fact that most of CA's lakes that were ways down are in danger of overflowing because of the precipitation this year. it;s the typical cyclical nature of the environment. Just as with the glacier they were screaming about. Sure they have been receding in North America BUT at the same time they are growing massively is the South.
And the fact is its not lakes that store most of the fresh water its actually stored in ice.

A very good read (or listen)...

The story of the American West is the story of a relentless quest for a precious resource: water. It is a tale of rivers diverted and dammed, of political corruption and intrigue, of billion-dollar battles over water rights, of ecological and economic disaster. In his landmark book, Cadillac Desert, Marc Reisner writes of the earliest settlers, lured by the promise of paradise, and of the ruthless tactics employed by Los Angeles politicians and business interests to ensure the city's growth. He documents the bitter rivalry between two government giants, the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in the competition to transform the West. Based on more than a decade of research, Cadillac Desert is a stunning expose and a dramatic, intriguing history of the creation of an Eden--an Eden that may only be a mirage.

I have been told that there is no climate problem that would lead to decreased snowpack or rain fall.

Why prepare for something that can't be happening?

We're getting to test our backup (hand) pump. Seems the electric pump got so old, it just fell over and died.

I'm hoping we can get it replaced soon - but in the meantime, we're pumping water like our grandparents did.

Makes me very appreciative of the modern conveniences.

Read it! The coruption of 'water pioneers' is mind bogling! But, if not for them, what would the West be like today? Water rights should be investigated before you buy that piece of paradise!

What an astonishing story! They're actually building a mud dam across the bed of the Mississippi River to slow down the influx of salt water. I had no idea things were that dry over there.

I remember seeing the Napa River in Vallejo California flow backwards during incoming tides, years ago. But as soon as the tide stopped coming in, the normal flow would resume. Sounds like the Mississippi River just doesn't have enough water to keep flowing. Wow.
