Turning in a gun safe that's obviously been broken in to might raise a few questions at the scrapyard and a call to PPB. Well officer, I just found this laying by the bike path.
I doubt it. Homeless steal something like 10,000 cars per year in Portland. Many of hose are chopped up within days to weeks and a good portion of the metal etc makes it there. From what I've seen they don't give a rats arse where stuff comes from. It's all about money and their biggest moneymakers are the army of thieves out there.

Any safe will only slow down a thief, but a better one will slow them down more. Heavier and bolted to the floor, even better.

Light enough for a couple guys to carry, all packed up and ready to go, in the garage, not even bolted down? That'll only slow them down long enough to pick it up and load it into their truck.
Unfortunately, that is what many budget minded gun owners buy. Many more are a lot lighter than 295lb. At least have it bolted down.

The scrap yard I go to won't accept safes.
They told me that old vintage safes might contain asbestos, so they prohibit any and all safes.

I agreed that the army of thieves are the biggest money makers and
Biggest problems The grocery stores, home Depot and all the big and small retailers are getting robbed every day. It's the same army of thieves over and over rotating from store to store.

Metro Metals demand a clear vehicle title.
You can cut up most of a car, but that's a lot of work and thieving tweekers generally won't work that hard.

The bicycle was towing a boat, and… Well, you know how it is with guns and boating accidents.
Safe what safe?

Call Portland police? That's a joke right? :s0140:
What are Portland police going to do about a trashed out empty safe? :s0140:

Maybe they'd send out one of them "safety specialists". Take finger prints! Yeah, that's it! :s0140:

Well, if that were your safe, filled with your guns, out of your house......I don't think you'd be be laughing. PPb or no PPB.

I think it's kind of funny when people talk about the portland police as though we have a strong police force that is there when we need them. Serving, and protecting. It's like, "Where have you been these last few years?"

My neighbor passed away a couple of weeks ago. Some thieves broke into his shop a week later.
I called the Multnomah County non emergency line and I was on hold a few minutes short of an hour.
It took 45 minutes for a deputy Sheriff to drive the two miles from their station and hand me their business card.

Wow they are getting faster. It wasn't that long ago that 2.5-3 hours wait on the phone was the minimum and roughly 6 hours was the maximum.
