I was at a "Get to know your candidates for governor" meeting at Tri-County Gun Club tonight, where Sam Carpenter, the leading GOP candidate for Governor of Oregon gave a talk and answered questions. One of the major topics of course was IP 43.

He made an interesting point: IP 43 might be the best thing to hit the ballot this coming November for those of us against infringement of our gun rights. What?!? The point sounds counter-intuitive at first, but his thought on it is quite interesting. I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like this:
---
Don't be concerned about IP 43 making it onto the books. If it makes it to the ballot, it is going to cause an overwhelming influx of GOP voters to vote this coming November. They'll be coming out of the woodwork. The ballot measure will most certainly be defeated, and even better, other initiatives and candidates will also receive votes that wouldn't have otherwise. He quoted a statistic that the turn-out percentage for voting of registered GOP voters in Oregon in various other counties can be underwhelming. (I don't remember exactly but I think Sam said it was something as low as 34% of registered GOP party members have been actually voting.) He's been making the rounds around Oregon, and everyone he's meeting is screaming about IP 43. Outrage is high. Registrations are up. More people will be coming to the poles (i.e. mailing in ballots).
---

According to Sam the progressive Left is very concerned about IP 43, because it's going to cause such an uproar that many of the other leftist agendas are also going to be hit really hard due to the additional Conservative voter turnout. Legislators are fearful about the fate of other leftist-sponsored issues and other leftist initiative petitions, all because of IP 43 being an unfortunate catalyst.

It makes sense to me...

Please if anyone is going to a rally against 43/44 please leave the hardware home. The media will be looking for opportunity to scare their viewers with you hardware; please dress as if you are going to church. Thanks for thinking about this.

I agree with you on this, all it will do is fan the flames and continue to make people all the more mad at people who own firearms. What really worries me about this idea, is all it would take to really mess things up, one person bring a weapon that is loaded, and it go off. Don't think it can't happen. ANYTHING is possible. by the way, SAM CARPENTER FOR GOVERNOR !! go to his website and read up on him. Pass the word

Exactly. This has always been the lefts advantage. They were able to turn out more of their demographic in every election, up to 45% in general elections. The GOP has always had low numbers. The left has the PERS crowd, their families and retirees, the Federal teat suckers, and all that. With the 200K imbalance in voters to the left side, turning the GOP out is very important in meeting this challenge.

In Oregon only since we started voting by mail. When you actually had to go to a polling place and show ID it was very much different

The other night I was at a 43 educational seminar and a son of a holocaust survivor came up to me and said he was armed and "Never again". I asked him if there were holocaust survivors in Pdx and there were, but avoid politics and too old. I amazes me that black people might advocate for gun control but their history was that slave owners had the guns and they were killed if they were arm until the NRA promoted their gun rights!

Agree with all of that - IP 43 will bring out conservatives in droves.

Unfortunately it will also bring out anti-gun people in droves. They have repeatedly demonstrated their unhinged, hateful, completely insane, TDS mindset ever since Nov 8, 2016. Even without IP43 they are going to be hard to beat. If Rs don't TOTALLY unite then the left will win. This is not going to be easy. Even a whifff of not voting R because the candidate has a skeleton in his closet (similar to Judge Roy Moore in Alabama) and our gun rights are GONE FOREVER! We're not voting for preacher. If the R candidate is a raunchy porn star and a prostitute, but they're a solid pro-gun candidate, I'm voting for them.

FYI I'm in the PERS crowd, worked union for 18 years, and I've NEVER voted Demonrat or my pocketbook. What's best for me personally is not necessarily what's best for the state or the country, and there are more like me than you think. I'm solidly on your side, and I agree with Sam Carpenter. We will likely win whether this makes it to a vote or not as long as we keep fighting and show up where it counts: AT THE POLLS!!!

Now, in order to keep this on topic, the AG has until 4/24 to draft a ballot title for this POS, so that's the current status of IP 43. When she does, let's FLOOD her office with comments which must be filed no later than 5/8, or 14 days after the title is drafted.

Yep not bagging on PERS people at all, just the system that got it to what it is. I did a few years in the system and my wife did 17 in Tier One. The retirees deserve what was promised them.

Sam seems to be the best bet for the conservative vote and hopefully gain at least the statehouse for the first time in 30 years. The wild card here is why the AG (Demorat) names the ballot measure.

Didn't realize that the AG got to name the Initiatives. In that case it will be called "Children Safety Act For The Children Because Children".

Second amendment summary for legal professionals but this sums up the Supreme Court Decisions as potentially applicable to Oregon madness. Please see paragraphs 1-5 and pass this information on to those that would be interested. Thanks.

Second Amendment - U.S. Constitution - FindLaw

Its important to note that that ruling is both bad an good for gun owners.
People often only read this but also do not read that after the Militia became the National guard
the Militia became or stayed the people and that is not clear after congress ruled
the National Guard would be control by states not the people, and also in some aspects contradicts the
2nd Amendment. This is problem the NRA and OFF as examples stopped pushing and really screwed the pooch
by not clarifying this for the people. It why I am so hard on these other agencies that seem oblivious to the real problem.

It's my understanding that the reason it goes through the AG now is because of misleading or incoherent ballot names. I also believe that's why they have the ability to challenge the draft title by the AG. Misleading names can lead to bad consequences. So the ability to challenge is definitely something we need to take advantage of. The important thing is if you want to challenge the final title, you first have to challenge the draft title. If enough folks did this, it could really tie it up and cut short their days to collect signatures, since that end date is fixed.

I got a letter from ARPC saying there is going to be a rally against 43 tomorrow in Salem from 11-1 is anyone elese going?

Here are two great recent videos that show there are people of color that are fighting very hard for all of our rights. If you follow anyone on any social media sites, they should be in your list: Colion Noir (NRA TV) and Killer Mike ("Killer" because he killed it with his rap lyrics).

They are right in line with us. Both of them deserve all of our undivided attention. Really good stuff:
