I just noticed the picture of the firearm with a cock (hahn) and a nipple. (Pardon the expression.:rolleyes:)

Is that what you call a transition firearm? :D

It is a converted flint to percussion lock.
This was done many different ways ... in this case we used the original flint hammer.
At other times a new percussion hammer was fitted.

Long story short ...
We were copying a original trade gun that was converted this same way.
In our gun we had the following original parts:
Barrel
Lock plate w/ lock internals
Butt plate , trigger guard , thimbles , trigger , side plate.

So we took a new hammer , fitted it to the lock.
The original conversion was made with a flint hammer with a piece of lead "smushed" between the jaws of the hammer... So we did the same.
Ugly , but it works and we now have a line for line copy of a real original converted Trade Gun with our mostly original parts.
One of the pistols in the Burr / Hamilton duel is converted the same way.
