In a word, pepper spray... Skinny jean, pacifist dude should have sprayed down the homeless guy the first time the homeless guy touched him or spit at him...

Both are definite signs of aggression... And need to be dealt with accordingly...

Zero intervention tells us all we need to know about our self absorbed society... Little electronic gadgets for the sheeple to keep them occupied and oblivious...

Not putting oneself in the situation to begin with is the best solution...

Well,if you are like me and worked downtown and saw some of these types,you would tell your girl we ain't staying around here.Nothing good will come of it
I think the wimpy guy and his girl were trying to be cool and hang out in homeless town,be cool and all with the street folk
But I believe the homeless guy did the spitting not the wimp

THAT is the ONE AND ONLY thing that will INSTANTLY trigger me into full-on "berserker mode", and I mean FULL-ON so quick it's like an instant reflex. Spit on me and you'll lose teeth, blood, and have a severe permanent limp at the very least... cuz I won't stop until you're putty.

That video led to a few more where that old bubblegum did the same thing to person after person. Got away with it every time. Hard to figure why a healthy guy would stand for that bubblegum more than about half a second. I grew up in the NYC area back in the 1960s. Can't remember a single person that I grew up with that wouldn't have pounded that piece of garbage into a jellyfish. Something has gone seriously wrong.

Having seen violence first hand , being on the receiving end of violence or dealing out violence myself , I am reluctant to resort to violence.

Actually, the ground position is not at all undesireable for one trained. It's REAL easy to defend from there. Sooooooo many options, but my favorite is break the knee or kneecap (really painful and debilitating) take him down and a rear naked choke. Then detain while girlfriend calls 911. At any rate, SOMEONE should have choked the guy out!

I have seen and read about countries and governments who have programs to deal with those they deem "undesirable" , don' t much like or care about those programs.
They could always come for you next, if they find you "undesirable"...

The "welfare state" established the 20th century version of the "plantation mentality". LBJ was the first profoundly Socialist president since FDR. We need to slowly eliminate these programs, and require people to work for life, unless they are either physically or mentally incapable of doing so.

Encouraging work, instead of remaining on the Government dole would go a long way toward solving the problem.
