In an incident that unfolded in Philadelphia's University City, a woman was forced to use her firearm in self-defense after a man shattered her car window with a crowbar. Highlighting the importance of preparedness and self-defense, the 27-year-old woman's readiness likely prevented what could have escalated into a more violent encounter.

At the bustling intersection of 30th and Chestnut Streets, the incident began as what police are referring to as a "road rage" incident. According to reports, the 22-year-old male approached the woman's vehicle armed with a crowbar. After breaking the passenger-side rear window, the woman reacted swiftly, firing her weapon and striking the man in the groin.

The man dropped the crowbar inside her vehicle and managed to drive to Center City before being incapacitated by his injury. Found by authorities at the intersection of 23rd and Market Streets, the man was promptly rushed to Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition.
Hopefully the woman got support by the police for the incident after the fact?

Well, I'm sure it could have escalated beyond an attacker breaking your car window and trying to assault you with a deadly weapon, forcing you to shoot him, but that to me is a fair bit of escalation.

I'm not victim blaming/shaming, but this is a good reminder to us that avoidance (not saying she didn't try) and pride reduction (not saying she didn't) is necessary when we are carrying a gun. Also not saying it should be this way, but now she has to go through a bunch of stuff that she doesn't deserve.

From a curiosity point of view, I want to know if she was surprised by the attack or saw it developing. Of my main two vehicles, the truck allows space for easy movement in the drivers seat but the car, good luck for quick access to my firearm. It might be better to drive away for survival if afforded the chance.

If stuck between other cars and fewer options to drive away, if alone do you abandon your vehicle (with your key) or do as she did? I've seen and heard of several attacks with people trapped in the driver's seat in California. From road rage to robberies. Stuck in your car is not a good place to be.
