Lots of great comments in here. Very similar to my wife and our situation. We've been to half a dozen gun shows over the past year and have had her out shooting and trying several different guns.
She has small hands, so size is a consideration
She is not comfortable with the slides in the semi autos
She (fortunately) developed an opinion of what she liked and voiced it
We ended up with a Charter arms .38. She is very comfortable with revolvers and the Charter fit her well. I know there are better or more popular brands out there, but this worked well for her. It is definitely not one you will put 100 round through in one sitting at the range, but for reliability, size, comfort, etc it was a great option for her. She will typically put 20 rounds or so through it at the range and then trade off for some of the larger revolvers for the rest of the day.
