Liberty or Death , what we so proudly hail...
Once you provoke her , rattling of her tail...
Never begins it , Never but once engaged...
Never surrenders , Showing the fangs of rage...
Don't Tread On Me...

I go thru epochs of various widely different music. Currently introspective phase I favor the myriad versions of this:
"
Hallelujah
Jeff Buckley
Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah [x4]
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah [x4]
Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know)
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah [x4]…"

The last live concert I attended was circa 1975 King Dome, some little group of 4 Brits. Never been in a single building with 75000 music fans before. Or since.

Saw a bunch of the Pink Floyd/Who/Doors/etc of the 70s era in PDX. Had enough of the crowd scene that goes with it. Gave up my 'collection' and no longer have even a 'play list' let alone any media assembled to soothe.

Actually saw Sinatra live in one of his last shows in PDX. 1st set stunk, was about to walk out. 2nd set something must have kicked in as Frank was just damn spectacular, and 3rd set even better.

Saw Willie live PDX about 1975 or so. Damn good show, no BS and well worth the trip.

Currently the Teduschi-Truck band has some of my favorite tunes.

NAILD it, muh Brutha!! :s0090:

I also often think of the last five words of the last verse of our national anthem.... sadly, most bubblegummers have NO clue.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

don't forget the first half of the chorus...

So be it threaten no more...
To secure peace is to prepare for war.

Those are words to live and prep by.

John Fogarty (CCR) jokes around with his audience onstage and actually sings "There's a bathroom on the right."

And Jeff Lynne (ELO) said of "Don't Bring Me Down" that he simply made up the word, "Groos," which sounds like a German word "Gruß." But when his live audiences sing "Bruce" instead, he just goes with it.

Oh to be a millionaire pop/rock musician... I suppose I'd let my ticket buying fans sing whatever the hell they wanted to as well!

I always thought Bruce - as in the mechanical fish from Jaws.

I wear this crown of sh*t
Upon my liars chair
Full of broken thoughts
That I cannot repair

Pretty isn't it? It's from Nine Inch Nails "Hurt". They should put that on a Hallmark card.

Johnny Cash covered it.

the last couple Johnny Cash tunes I heard were magnificent and very metaphysical. The way he closes the piano lid along with his lyrics on Hurt video is one of the most moving symbols I've ever seen.

That justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys, you got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
And we'll all meet back at the local saloon
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing
Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
Too much corruption, and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down
You can bet he'll set 'em down

Toby Keith & Willie Nelson

'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
'Cause one-of-'em old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma'am
And if you ain't into that we don't give a damn

We're from North California and south Alabam'
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trotline
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Hank Williams Jr.

Some people call me the space cowboy , yeah...
Some call me the gangster of love...
Some people call me Maurice...
'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love...

The Joker
By The Steve Miller Band

After listening to this song for 30 odd years ... I still have no idea what "pompatus" means ...:D
But I still like the song anyway.:D

"You're the cutest thing I ever did see
Really love your peaches want to shake your tree
Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time
Come on baby and I'll show you a good time"

I always understood the last part of that song.

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
