Person-to-person transmission confirmed in Illinois.

Separately, World Health Organization (WHO) declares it a global public-health emergency.

Are we getting all the details? Dunno. We'll find out... Watch for metrics on the R0 (R-naught) and Mortality Rate...

Just a thought.

Lets say during SARS there were 10,000 infected and 1,000 died. That's 10% dead. [Not real numbers. Just easy for my math example]. Consider the deaths to infection ratio is tabulated in hind sight. After the fact.

Now lets say it takes four days on average from the time symptoms show. Until you die from this new virus.
You don't divide 8,000 infected today. Into 180 dead today. Those 180 were infected, and destined to die four day ago.

You divide todays deaths by the number infected something like four days ago. Say 1,000-2,000 infected?
That 180 dead today. Could be 10% or more? Depending on a bunch of variables. [ Like the stage the patient tested positive for the virus. Regardless of symptoms or not ].

It's hard to tell at present. But after all is said and done. We will easily be able to do the math.
As of now? Comparing the death rate from the SARS or any other past outbreak. To this still unfolding outbreak is not apples to apples.
This guy agrees with you. Makes this point at 3:30.

This from Illinois:

"Public health officials are actively investigating other possible individuals the couple came into contact with after they became symptomatic, which the CDC said occurs between two and 14 days after exposure."

That's great, but we already know the virus is transmissible in the pre-symptomatic phase. See post 210.

The best takeaway is the same for any viral outbreak. Wash your hands, especially before touching your face. Viruses can survive on inanimate surfaces for different lengths of time depending on the composition, so just avoiding crowds isn't enough. :)

This would make sense if animals in the State of Washington were infected:

"The state has implemented its multiple emergency support functions, which includes public health and medical services. It also means the State Department of Agriculture and Department of Natural Resources are also part of the response since the virus can spread from animals to humans."

It's more dangerous than SARS because the incubation period is up to 2 weeks, not 5 days like they originally said. The coronavirus might've been getting spread around way before December, as far back as July for all we know. People die from the flu, maybe it wasn't just a regular flu they died from. Lots of unknowns.

Any of you guys invested in the stock market, you may want to convert to cash or whatever today.

I also noticed that 3 month and 10 year bonds have been inverted all day. And the 30 year has been dipping in and out of below 2%.

Money is pouring in.

Stock market is down 550 points as of now,. And gold is around 1590 an OZ.
So people are running in panic to safety.

I do hope things calm down and normalize .

Have you heard it is Canada's ?
