The lawyers (and any other members of the legal system) who originally defended her and got her the settlement should in turn be sued for some sort of 'willful ignorance' and be required to pay the settlement back to the city.

If she got that kind of money she should have moved as far away from any gangs as possible, and use that money to buy the best education to help her other son become a decent human being. She [ and her lawyer ] got a settlement because the police shot and killed her son while there were already two high profile cases working through the courts! Good timing on her sons part. And she is not absolutely stupid... she was smart enough to shut up and let her lawyer talk for her! She is Gang affiliated herself and runs a gang flop house! Her ex husband is gang affiliated and doing time himself. So this is all normal stuff for her. It was just her tie to do time! DR

Smittcamp says the settlement was lawfully given to Lopez, but she said her office would need to do some research to see if there's a way to seize any of that money.
