I consider myself a Liberal, even though that always seems to be a dirty word here. But this is garbage. Total and complete crock of bubblegum.

I'm with you and I'm constantly arguing the point with my friends. Guns are neutral... it's the person behind it that can either kill or save lives. In countries that have banned guns, incidents of stabbings have risen. It seems to me to be more of a mental health issue than a weapons issue. That and people don't speak up when they observe unstable behavior from their peers. Just about every mass shooter has all the classic signs of escalating aggression and violence until they finally crack and decide to kill a bunch of innocent people.
My son just bought an AR this week. He is autistic and has some mental delays but is in no way violent or emotionally unstable. He's careful to the extreme when it comes to firearms but then again, he was taught proper respect for something that can cause damage to himself or others.
I don't think disarming law abiding citizens is going to solve anything anymore than the war on drugs solved our drug problems. It'll just make more criminals to fill up our overcrowded prisons. Oh yeah, and AR doesn't stand for Assault Rifle.. that one drives me crazy. People don't even know how to Wikipedia stuff... I swear. SMH Ok I'm done ranting... preaching to the choir. But yeah, those of us that tend to lean more to the left politically except for gun rights issues need to speak up. Not all liberals are anti gun. A gun saved my family and I'll defend my right to protect myself, my property, and my loved ones.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in Oregon's initiative process by commenting on recent initiative petition ballot titles and process compliance. Over the last few weeks, we received an historic number of comments on several petitions. Our state is made better by passionate participation in the initiative process.

I am committed to fairly and impartially following the legal process for every initiative petition. The Secretary of State's Office is responsible for tasks like verifying petition signatures, processing required forms, and other administrative tasks. The Attorney General's Office is responsible for drafting ballot titles. Neither the Secretary of State nor the Attorney General has the authority to rule on whether a petition violates the US Constitution. Oregon law only allows such challenges to be decided by the courts after an initiative is approved by the voters.

One of the legal process requirements for petitions is that they must "embrace one subject only and matters properly connected" to the one subject. The Oregon Supreme Court has determined that a petition complies with this legal process requirement if there is a "unifying principle logically connecting all provisions." To help explain this requirement, in other legal cases, the Oregon Supreme Court decided that an initiative petition is considered as containing only one subject even though it includes all of the following provisions: (1) crime victims' rights, (2) admissibility of evidence at criminal trials, (3) release criteria for those accused of crimes, (4) criminal sentencing and orders for restitution, and (5) changes to the jury process in criminal cases. This legally binding precedent applies to Initiative Petition 43.

Therefore, "firearms regulation" is legally considered as the "unifying principle" of Initiative Petition 43's various parts. The Secretary of State must follow legally binding precedent.

I don't understand how they can say Assault weapon ban on the title of 043. It is not a ban on assault weapons. It is a ban on All Semi Auto rifles, pistols and shotguns that have detached magazines. This title is an outright trick to the voters. I filed my complaint but did no good. If it passes I am real curious what gun owners will really do. Not just say, but really do. We will see.

This is my first post on this very loooooooong thread. I just could not go on any longer reading posts which say, in effect, I'm a Democrat, but I am not anti-gun, without responding. BS BS BS !!!!! Every major anti-gun piece of legislation since 1934 has been authored by the Democrats:
--- The National Firearms Act (NFA), 1934
--- The Gun Control Act of 1968, 1968
--- The Brady Violence Handgun Protection Act, 1993
--- and there will be more to come, believe it
If you are a Democrat, and have helped to vote Democrats into office, then you are complicit. You can bob and weave and duck and make excuses, but the Democrat Party in this country has a long history of making life difficult for those of us who believe that gun-ownership "shall not be infringed".

While this is exactly what I'd want to do, what would happen then? I don't want to have to defend myself during a home invasion, and then get convicted of a felony simply because I had a threaded barrel. Then it'd be a permanent goodbye-gun-rights for me. Congratulations on the property acquisition in Arizona, a bit more warmth and a bit less wet there. Understanding today Arizona is more honoring of constitutional and God given rights, but the liberal/progressive cancer is everywhere. And it's spreading...

As long as the local community doesn't own their educational system, but allows it to be driven from Washington, D.C., the children will continue to be indoctrinated, that's the sad truth. Their ideals will become law... Then one day, the very reasons you flee Oregon, will cause you to desire to flee Arizona.

If we don't stand firm and win these battles, the war will surely be lost, along with this Republic and the freedoms and liberties she once afforded...

This goes just to far, I know a couple over the top liberal anti-gunners and even they are shocked at how stupid far it is. They fear it has zero chance to pass just because its poorly written and and reaches. You may be wondering why such a stupid idea like hey lets ban everything would happen?

A person whom I can not quote as they wish to remain anonymous, said at a family function a couple weeks ago, Brown spoke of this not passing and they will be using its failure to pass, on what they can next year. In other words they know this is over the top so much so it will make next years bill seem tame when they can ban AK & AR styles which Brown seems to have stated at that function was the real goal. High caps are not evenm going to be considered next year from what was said. It just all smoke an mirrors.
But for God sake still get out and vote it wont pass, but by how far it doesn't is what she said matters.

And as usual you will i'm sure hear about this from the NRA and OFF when they get around to finding out as they are always months behind the reality of what is going on here. I simply do not have the resources to do what needs doing so I post on here time to time. Sucks being poor, but doing my share.

You won't get many "like"s from this neck of the woods, because an awful lot of people around here are into going with the "popular flow" (political correctness) instead of the truth of what OR has become. AZ and ID aren't far enough though. True they can't enforce any of this B.S. , but commit a investigative event say using a unregistered AR in defense of your home and some hot shot will grabs that by the proverbial balls and let the charges rack up. No compliance is easy, don't do stupid bubblegum, and no one will be the wiser. Use that firearm in a way it gets attention thats where the problem is. It gets much deeper in how they will go about making examples. They don't need to arrest all of us, just a few key media friendly stories so they can put the fear into the people. But that said so far SB941 has resulted in not one arrest in 3 years on a so called emergency clause. It wont effect me, all mine got lost in that tragic boat accident , or TBA.
