I haven't seen it. I graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2010, its about as liberal of a university and town as you can get, I don't think I heard one word about guns or gun rights from any faculty or admin. The groups that have been popping up recently seem to be student organized groups.

Glad to hear that! Hope there are more like that, but we hear of too many schools with leftist teachers, allowing kids to protest 2A, etc.

Just curious. What about people from out of state. Does the idiot ballot effect them also. Does this mean that no one can enter Oregon with a semi auto. I would still like to know how much the drafters of this ballot got paid and by whom.

Bolt-action rifles aren't affected, only semiautos.

I asked people on OregonLive which of these firearms would be banned as "assault weapons" under IP 43:

a) the rifle
b) the pistol
c) both the rifle and the pistol
d) neither the rifle nor the pistol

Many people assumed the black scary-looking tactical rifle is an "assault weapon" of the type that would be banned. But the correct answer is b) the pistol (because it is semiauto and has a threaded barrel). The scary black rifle is a bolt-action Ruger Precision Rifle that would not be classified as an "assault weapon" and wouldn't be banned. But the little .22 pistol would be classified as an "assault weapon" and would be banned by IP 43.
I get it. I have a S&W 22 Compact pistol and it will be bubblegum weapon because of threaded barrel. It really is puzzling to figure out why the exact same firearm would be so much more dangerous with a threaded barrel. I think it is a lazy way to ban the real targets of their obession but not have to use a whole bunch of language in the proposed law.

Yes. For people moving in to the State after Jan 1st they would not be able to bring their banned semi-autos with them. I think the goal behind that little portion of the proposed law is to discourage and more 2nd Amendment supports from moving in to the state. Think about it, if you are living in a free state or fleeing an un-free state why would you move to an un-free state?

They didn't draft that piece of work by there lonesomes. What i think but thats all, is that they were recruited by the powers that be to bring this to the ballot and had their help in crafting it. Then if it passes, Brown and Salems Lot can say, "Hey, you voted for it, don't blame me".

Socialists with the long-term goal of eliminating our Democratic Republic are behind all of it. And this current one has the added stink of the religious fundamentalists in the Portland area.

Just fwiw a lot of us religious fundamentalists are very pro 2a. I would dare say most of us l know, are.
The bunch of them who created and are pushing these ballot measures are VERY anti-2a by their actions; and they claim to speak for a very large number of people of the same ilk. Glad to hear some of them are not, although with me I'll continue to let their actions speak of their true beliefs.

It is waking folks up that after 100 years of basically leave-gun-owners-alone, the socialists from Kalifornia etc. have moved here in enough numbers to upset the apple cart but good.

FYI those who wrote these bills are largely militant lyrics opposed to anything that resembles fundamentalism just as a heads up. You are misusing some terms here for sure. The leanings of the groups discussed would be described as liberal in a theological as well as political sense. Fundamentalism is essentially always going to lean conservative in a broad sense. The connection between the desire to preserve one's faith and one's rights stem from a similar worldview. This is intended just as a heads up so as to help prevent infighting amongst your allies.

This is my first post on this very loooooooong thread. I just could not go on any longer reading posts which say, in effect, I'm a Democrat, but I am not anti-gun, without responding. BS BS BS !!!!! Every major anti-gun piece of legislation since 1934 has been authored by the Democrats:
--- The National Firearms Act (NFA), 1934
--- The Gun Control Act of 1968, 1968
--- The Brady Violence Handgun Protection Act, 1993
--- and there will be more to come, believe it
If you are a Democrat, and have helped to vote Democrats into office, then you are complicit. You can bob and weave and duck and make excuses, but the Democrat Party in this country has a long history of making life difficult for those of us who believe that gun-ownership "shall not be infringed".

WHAT NOBODY IS ADDRESSING IS "WHO / HOW " ARE THEY GOING TO FINANCE THESE STUPID LAWS WITH OUT AN ANNUAL CHARGE PER GUN. ????? OSP IS ALREADY OVERWORKED:confused::confused::confused:
IP-43 authorizes the charging of as yet unspecified fees for registration of grandfathered weapons to cover the cost.

Yeah Right !! How many low income seniors that have guns for hunting/plinking /or closet queens an afford a annual charge, Look @ Illinois ;I believe they have to buy permits to own guns

I don't know how many. But if IP-43 passes, they won't be hunting/plinking anymore. Those activities will be prohibited with semi-autos covered by the ban. The only place you will be allowed to use them is at a facility designed and built for target shooting. So, if they can't afford the registration fee, and they can't afford to join a gun club, I would guess they would have to surrender their guns, or become felons.

First of all there are very few gun ranges in the state of Oregon. Over time here on NWFA ,I have seen complaints about trying to access the local ranges and the high cost of joining.
A lot of people combine their target practice with camping here in E Oregon and you always see the good old OSP running around the mtns looking for violators. They would check just see if your rifle/pistol was registered in Salem would give them cause to check out any shooters they could find.Suppose they were looking for whom ever fired the shots from another close by area and thought it was you be cause they see/found empty brass in your camping area. Even though you did not have guns it would give them cause to check you out.:eek:

Initiative Petition 43 UPDATE

Many of you already heard the Secretary of State received 1,060 objections to the proposed ballot title for IP43 as written by Attorney General. Everyone of those objections have been sent to the Attorney General's Office where she is required by law to review them then either amend the ballot title accordingly or defy every objection by certifying the proposed ballot title as is. She has until May 23rd to certify the ballot title.

Once the AG submits the CERTIFIED ballot to the Secretary of State those who filed an objection has standing with the Supreme Court and will have 10 business days (until June 6th) to challenge the certified ballot title to the Supreme Court.

I know of six organizations and/or lawyers who are ready to file a challenge with the court. I also plan to file an appeal before the June 6th deadline. In fact, I have the document ready to go all I need to do is pay the filing fee ($481) then notify the Secretary of State's Office that I filed notification is simply submitting this form (http://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Documents/SEL324.pdf)

It's important to note there is no set timeline requirement as to when the Supreme Court must take up the filed appeals and issue a ruling whether the certified ballot title must be rewritten based on the objections submitted or let the certified language stand.

According to the Statesman Journal it normally takes between 2 - 6 months for the court to take up an appeal, anything sooner would be highly unusual. Then again the Supreme Court Justices are all far left anti-gunners so they may want to see IP43 on the November ballot and expedite the appeals process.

Here is why it was so important to have so many filed objections submitted to the Elections Division. The court must consider every filed objection and take them all in consideration before making a ruling. And until the Court makes a ruling the Petitioners are barred from gathering signatures as a result the Elections Division will not issue the Petitioners the official state signature gathering sheets! BIG KUDOS TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK THE TIME TO SUBMIT AN OBJECTION.

The best we can hope for is the July 6th deadline for submitting 88,184 signatures will pass before the court even takes up the appeal! And even if the Court expedites the appeal review the backers of IP43 will likely have (best case) less than ~ two and a half weeks to gather 88,184. And based on the average fallout of non-registered voters signing the petition they will need to submit around 120,000 signatures. That why even the Chief Petitioner was recently quoted as saying, "it will take a miracle" and I say God does not grant miracles to those who are attempting to mislead voters!

For anyone who may be interested in filing their own appeal with the court I will post the process in the comment section of this post.
