Been in Kali 4 plus months now. Have not bought a single cartridge. I don't like their prices anywhere that I have checked them, Sportsman's Guide, Big Five, Wally World, Dick's, gun stores, etc.. Hope to go shooting in the next few weeks so I will need to replenish. Am going to look seriously in to reloading before the year is out. There is a guy with a commercial style reloader that does several calibers and they have catchy little stickers "State of Jefferson Ammunition."

I found out where his product is sold in a local GS so I might pay them a visit on a nice relaxing ride one of these days.
I am pretty sure he will take "cash".
I am really hoping the Feds start slapping down some of these liberal states' BS, unconstitutional laws.

Being a younger guy (29) I still get carded all the time for alcohol and most large chain grocery stores DO type your birthday into the computer.

I'm sure it's their legal department and if they did accidentally sell to a minor they can go back through the security tape and they have a record of the actual birthday on the drivers license that was used to make the purchase.

As someone who works in management for one of those big chain grocery stores, the only time I actually key in the birthdate is when they are really close to 21 to help me make sure I'm doing my math right. Stores don't usually challenge the stings since the police and the OLCC are pretty thorough. The police cite the employee and the company if I'm not mistaken and then the company fires them.

If any of you need .22LR and want to take a beautiful drive out to Banks, I have 20-40 boxes of CCI coming in weekly. 68 boxes on my table right now. I don't need to record any of your information, just verify age and will charge you $0.50 over wholesale to cover my costs. I am available until 9 PM tonight, enjoying a rare day off from my day job to get ready for a few projects.

That makes sense. I worked the door at a place on St. Paddy's day and I hadn't bartended for a few years so I was surprised that kids born in 1996 are now old enough to drink. It was mostly an older crowd so I didn't have to check that many ID's.

The WSLCB doesn't use fake IDs or at least they're not supposed to. The kids they hire use their real ID and try to make a purchase. I have a friend who works the same kind of job you do and he said they have to fire a few people every year over it. It's pretty sad and not that difficult.

I always just have my ID out and ready when I'm buying anything age restricted or going into a bar I'm not a regular at. It's always annoying when someone who's obviously 25 is surprised they are getting carded and has to dig through their crap to find their ID or go back out to their car to get it.

Awwww....Man......:(:(
I knew I should have moved to Oregon.

Since my local Cornelius Walmart does sell guns, I know it has a FFL, but individual stores might vary. As far as seeing my ID and recording my DOB, I don't mind, just don't add identifying info. They are likely are 1) just making sure the clerk checked your ID, or 2) gathering some demographic info, or 3) both.
I'm assuming this is correct and I agree with the response.
I don't mind showing ID to verify I'm of age and if they want to type in a DOB to let the computer verify age that's cool, but I'm not excited about anything further.
I've seen grocery stores card people for alcohol sales and then the computer asks for a DOB just to verify age. I'm hoping that's all it is.

Yes, apparently that's a new policy that started today. To buy ammo, you need to show a photo ID and they DO keep a record of the date of birth of the person buying the ammo.
I tried understanding why, the guy said it is either a new law that went into effect or a new Walmart policy (which he said is called AA06 or AAO6, don't remember), that requires that. He didn't really know exactly, he seemed to be just following policy.
He also said Walmart is most likely going to get out of the business of selling ammo, because apparently the govt wants them to become FFLs (I'd thought they were all along but maybe not).
***********************************************************************
I make most of my ammo. Can't afford the commercial stuff, but if I buy it, there are lots of places to buy ammo besides Wally World. Out in Cornelius there is Bi Mart which usually has good prices and of course Fred Myer. You can buy lots of ammo online if you don't mind paying the shipping charge. There is no Haz-Mat fee on ammo.

I suppose that Wally World is following the laws in the Imperial State of Kalifornia. They probably want all of their stores to follow the same rules. There is nothing like conformity to put big brother in charge.

Hmmm... That's interesting as I used to own and run a small country store that carried ammo and I was required to have an FFL even if I didn't sell guns (which I later did but only on special order) so I'm not sure that the Wally World employee actually knew what he was talking about. Not unusual, methinks, but they usually have good prices on ammo... :s0062:

I have a feeling they type in the DOB to calculate how old the person is suppose to be, much like they way the let the register tell them how much change to give back. It freaks most cashiers out if you hand them a large bill and change so you don't get back pennies or other change after they seen what the change was suppose to be from just the bill you handed them. I rarely get a cashier that counts change back, most just hand you the change and look at you funny as you count it, and often correct them, to get the right change, and they really don't know what to do if they gave you too much.

I went to a local Walmart and talked to an employee. He told me that an associate somewhere sold pistol ammo to an underage person and Walmart was being sued.

That is probably closer to some truth. Sued? I doubt. Got in trouble? That I could easily see. By the time the story got passed to several wally workers it got to sued. I could see it happening though. Before I started buying on line I used to buy a LOT of .22 at Wally. The register would send out 2 prompts to the cashier. First was "Is this ammo going to be used for a handgun?". If customer says yes, "Is customer over 21?". Since I knew what was going on I would often help. When I would see them freeze up staring at the screen I would say. Yes it's for a handgun and yes I'm over 21. Most would then smile and hit the key to let it go through. Given the caliber of employee's at Wally I have ZERO doubt many have sold ammo to someone who was too young. No doubt at least one of them got caught doing it and the Feds fined the store for it. This is just like alcohol. Many stores now require ID for all alcohol sales no matter how old you are. All it takes is one screw up and it costs the store. So many just make it mandatory to have a valid ID to buy alcohol from them. Guessing Wally figures it's best for them to just make all show ID so some low paid employee can't screw it up and cost them. After all the profit margin from selling ammo is almost nothing to them compared to the rest of the store. Getting a fine or sued, well that would take a bite out of the profit. I have zero doubt that is some moron went on a shooting spree and they found he bought ammo at a Wally and was too young the bottom feeders would be all over it wanting a few million from them. Remember for a while Ebay banned all mag sales. The kook who shot all those people in a Jr. College had bought some mags off Ebay. Lawyers tried to go after them for some easy cash. IIRC they got shot down but it scared Ebay for a while.

Yeah, I learned long ago that the people behind the counter at Walmart don't really know what they are talking about. Let me share how I came by this realization.<snip>

At this point both employees kinda stormed off, and I was left standing there feeling a little bit defeated. I was about to give up and walk off when a kindly, older gentlemen who had been watching the exchange approached us, said his son had a particular one on his 91/30, and suggested that it might be a good one to try. With tears of gratitude, frustration, and joy in my eyes, I purchased that one and escaped Walmart never to return again. (Ok, well I wish the last part was true. I've been there more times then I can remember, but I did at least learn a valuable lesson about asking for information from employees there).

You write VERY well. That gave me a good laugh. Will have to share that at work.

LOL, long ago back when you pumped gas then went to pay. I stop at some stop'n rob. Pump $10, walk in hand some cute VERY young girl a $20. She is getting all kinds of bills out. I thought maybe she had no 10's. I count it as I head to door. She had given me $17 back. For a half a second I thought of walking on. Thought they would probably take it out of kids pay. so go back tell her you gave me too much change. She did what they used to teach in the old days. Put the money back and started again. This time she hands me $13, getting better here. I counted it right there and said, this is still too much. Honey I bought $10 in gas and gave you a $20. 10 and 10 is 20. She got all flustered and red but gave me a 10 this time. I doubt she had a job there by the end of the day.

Last I heard it was about limiting the amount of .22 ammo one could purchase from them in a day... since there were complaints and such about the limited supply and hoarding... I'd shop someplace else regardless. Their prices aren't good anyway, at least not from what I saw.

Side note here. I went to Fisherman's on Cascade (by Washington Square Mall) this last weekend, and they had tons or .22, multiple bulk boxes with a variety of brands and for pretty good prices (one example, 400 rounds of 38gr copper plated HP for $25, or just buy it individually for $2.50//box of 40) Also, no limit (I bought two of the 400 round boxes for me to stock up and one for a friend ; 1200 rounds total). It was the largest variety and stock of .22 I've seen in a lonnnnggg time.

Speaking of buying ammo.....

I was at Fisherman's Marine (Delta Park) yesterday.

Less than $10 Blazer Brass 50 rd box, 115 gr FMJ or 124 gr FMJ 9mm.
Brick of 22LR was little less than $25

Next door at Dick's
Remington 115 gn FMJ 9mm was about $11 something. But with mail in rebate.....comes to alittle less than $9 for a 50 rd box. Rebate is limited to 5 boxes per household.

Aloha, Mark

LOL, nobody knows how to do simple math anymore.

Many, many years ago I was in a very rural area visiting clients. I stopped at a little country store in the middle of nowhere to buy a soda. I checked my pockets on the way in and found a ten dollar bill. It suck in my mind because I know these little places could have slow days and might not have change, or at least might not after me if I used a twenty. A boy probably ten years old was running the register while Mom was restocking or something. He had the register down pat and seemed to be a little proud of it. He was very formal, maybe because I was in a suit, but I was impressed either way. Until I got about a mile down the road. That change was too many bills. I pulled over and checked the change that I had stuffed in my pocket. Change for a twenty. I turned around and went back to the store. I tried to very quietly let the kid know that he'd given me back ten dollars too much but Mom overheard us. She gave an ironic, knowing smile. Probably the first day the kid had been on his own at the register. Well they were happy about it and I got to spend the rest of the day feeling like I was something special, so win-win. :)

If you buy ammo with a credit card there are records of that, maybe not the caliber but usually it will show where you bought something and what paid/ date / etc. Back along time ago I was involved in some data mining experiments back before the internet
we known today and people then were taking all bank wired transactions and keeping tally of who, what where and how much.
I heard it was supplied to some political agency never knew which one but it was a way to track the information.
Now it seems data mining is no longer a stealth action but business as usual. I have tried to hide my tracks, no for paranoid reasons
but because its a nonya business reasons. I am sure some is used for reasons I would not want to know about, and then some is legit like sending me coupons for what I buy. I never had been asked for an ID at Walmart but I wont be buying there ammo as I am a grown up and you dont need my ID unless I say you do. This is what happens when we close mom and pops and spend 40 years building malls and box stores all to save a few buck we get mining companies disguised as consumer discount centers, don't get me started on the Socialist Starbucks Industry..........:eek:
