Follow-up: Northwest gun banners have huge credibility problem

When two gun prohibition lobbying groups announced Wednesday they will push to ban so-called "assault weapons" through legislation next year, they have a huge credibility problem underscored by FBI crime data, polling by a national law enforcement group and a recent Wall Street Journal editorial.

I am planning on moving up to Oregon shortly from California. So tired of the restrictions on 2A kind of had no choice. Disappointing to read that Oregon is following California. Believe me so far the gun laws you do have are a dream compared to California. I would hope that my added vote and voice in this state will help stop the tide. California is already lost don't see it ever going free ever again.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of Californians that are moving up here are bringing us the same problems, by the way they vote. When you do move up here, welcome. But when you reach the border, would you mind closing the gate behind you ?

Hey now! Some of my relatives think that the movie Deliverance is a documentary or a reality show ... LOL

Getting back to the OP ... Nope won't move.
My wife has her own business , I'm well regarded where I work and a Grandson is just about here.
Just keep voting and hoping for the best.

Shoot, Andy, Everson is nice and quiet, picturesque and probably most folks are still conservative....now Acme, you gotta keep an eye on them:rolleyes:

Brutus out

All my AR's are NFA SBR's. I know some folks dont agree with me but in case of a general ban those will be the last to go as the registry bit makes it harder for the state just to say "you can't have those" . They may place a "ban" on new ones but I can't imagine anything not being grandfathered. The rest of the stuff I have would be legal in California the way it is and even if Washington went as far as copying California legislation verbatim I really wouldnt be affected. I have enough mags to last a lifetime and 15K worth of loaded ammo and components. While I wouldnt like it I cant say that I would really be affected that much. Ive lived all over the country and other countries and Washington is pretty good for weapons and such. Ive lived in Washington for 21 years out of the last 26 with the balance just across the river in Oregon. I wouldnt want to live in the South again to be honest. MAYBE Texas but their concealed carry laws are kind of screwy. Weather sucks in the upper midwest, desert Southwest and I wouldnt live in the northeast on a bet.

I am not an organizer type but I do plan to stay and make government work as promised. As Tupac wrote in a song, I'm not a killer but don't push me. Personally I don't view this as a gun issue I see it as a rights issue. I don't like government over reach as this clearly is. I'm being pushed to vote for people I don't believe in.

I haven't been here long. There are things I like and things I don't. If I had been here earlier and established myself it would be difficult to leave. One of the reasons I took the job out here is because the gun laws aren't terribly onerous, but if that changes I'll be gone.

It's too bad too because there are some unique things here and a lot to like including my job. The cost of living is too high and I've already started interviewing elsewhere.

I'll do my part while I'm here, but the writing is on the wall there will be new gun laws in this state next year. The question is how far will they be able to go.

I should add to my first reply.

I was involved with the Free State Project, worked on Jason Sorens' spreadsheet for selecting the most liberty-friendly state. Then later with Free State Wyoming, Boston T. Party's project. I moved there a few years. I prefer Wyoming to Oregon, but moved back because my wife did and I was lonely! :) I should say though, that even Wyoming has its share of jerks in government. Being probably the most conservative state in the Union did not stop taxes going up, and that is with a government that is not broke like so many are. The legislature still spends like drunken cowboys. Still a lot of socialism - e.g. "free" college for everybody. The grass is not really greener on the other side of the hill.

Oregon is just fine. All you have to do is start ignoring the ruling class. Enough people do that, the problems will go away.

I am already gone, (to Idaho) Idaho has always been my home though, I just spent 17 years in Washington visiting.

I cant begin to tell you how much better Idaho "feels"

Still haven't quite settled in yet but we finally moved to TN and are looking for a house to buy with a bit of space between us and the neighbors. The smallish town I'm in is an hour from Nashville and is experiencing a bit of an economic boom.

My 3rd grader says they get in trouble if they don't answer "Yes Ma'am" and "No Ma'am" at School and dress codes are strict, everyone keeps asking what Church I go to, only seen a few transients thumbing rides at the Hwy on ramps and not hanging around at every corner and I've seen a few open carry guys around town too! Don't know the laws yet though.

Although I've seen a couple of sketchy druggie types and read of a few bad things It's a different vibe than the Eugene Springfield area for sure.

Nashville on the other hand:eek:......

Too early to tell yet if we made the right move but I get the feeling my guns are safe for the near future anyway.

Keep up the good fight against the anti gun progs! You seem to be on the front line out there.

My family (parents, sister) have lived in Oregon since 1989, I followed in 1995, but made the mistake of moving back to California in 2001. The friends I made 20 years ago in Salem are still my friends now- I've visited so many times I lost count. My father died last January in Albany, and it was at that point I decided I will retire and die in Oregon as well. My California wife has finally accepted this, and we're making the transition to move back to Oregon as soon as possible.

I'm building an AR-15 with a Spikes 16" complete upper, lower, and Magpul furniture- it's amazing how crazy the CA gun laws are, first with banning certain models of rifles, then the bullet button, limiting magazines to 10 rounds, and now banning the bullet button, trying to make citizens register if they own a rifle with typical features and making a registry to see who buys ammo. If the new gun laws change where the Libtard California politicians think they can make me surrender my newly built AR, it will get taken to Oregon and sold to my Mom for a $1. Thank God Oregon and Washington are filled with citizens who are Patriots, gun owners, Outdoorsmen and will never tolerate politicians owned by special interest groups who don't really represent the best interests of the People of their state, and think they can create laws based on their own interpretation of the 2nd Ammendment vs. what the Federal Supreme court has ruled. I'm also looking forward to tossing that stupid bullet button and being able to shoot with whatever round magazine I choose- 20,30, 60 etc. The California 10 day wait period is also a big joke too. I'm counting the days when we can move back to Oregon, and leave God-forsaken California for good.

I'm currently visiting Western Idaho. Looked at about a dozen properties yesterday. Have it narrowed down to two.
Well, I'm off to the county maintained range...
