There is a blast from the past.I really miss King's Table and Furr's Cafeteria from my youth.
King's Table had the best deserts ever.

The only way, I did it at Hometown/Old Country. At John's Incredible Pizza on the other hand, I wanted to be first in at opening, before the crowds showed up. The popcorn and butterflied shrimp cried when they saw me coming. The trick with Hometown Buffet is go 5 minutes before they switch from lunch to dinner...
....pay for lunch, stay for an early dinner (mostly neat, clean, polite old folks).
cheaper, less kids, more time to go for a walk afterwards.
(easier to out-run them for the last shrimp?)
^ This. I couldn't be paid to dine at one.The ole human feeding trough? Like slopping the hogs. Good riddance.

Was in Camas yesterday and out of curiosity stopped by Golden Corral on the way home.
Felt like I was on the Jerry Springer show with the food stamp crowd. The food tasted like it was reheated right off the Sysco truck.
I'm not sure what people like about unlimited bad food. The food tasted like it was reheated right off the Sysco truck.
There's a throwback. Funny timing, since I was reminiscing about King's Table and North's Chuck Wagon the other day. I wonder when they went defunct.Possibly just a victim of the times. Hard to maintain the price point for its customers as unskilled labor demands 20 bucks per hour plus insurance, dishwasher for instance. Food has gotten expensive. And how to control the theft? Not by calling the police.....when I was a kid, my folks liked to frequent King's Table in St. Johns in N. Portland. Their entertainment while eating there was watching all the big ladies come in with their giant purses, that were empty. It was almost like a race for them when a new pan of fried chicken came out. Get in line, whole plate piled with fried chicken, get back to the table, and dump it in the purse. Like clockwork. Employees saw it, but even back then, wouldn't dare say a word, just bring out another pan.
Nostalgia, depression and disdain. This thread is a mix of nostalgia and depression. The latter realizing I'm as old as a lot of you.
Sounds about right. I have noticed all my go to foods at diners and restaraunts are up about 30%. Not talking the fancy places. 4 of us go out for a meal, I just expect it to be around 100 bucks. Funny thing is, lines are as long as ever.Nostalgia, depression and disdain.
I was surprised to see how many buffet haters there are here. I went out to bfast with wife this morning for our anniversary and it was $40 with tip. This was not a fancy place (big bear diner). I felt like I was ripped off but I am dieting so a buffet would not have been a wise choice calorie wise.
I am guessing there are a lot more affluent members here than I would have expected. This makes sense when you see see the contempt displayed for low budget firearm brands.
I kind of feel like, as a poor, that I am fortunate to be able to hobnob with upper class here.
