@Whooosah
You also do not have to join IDPA to shoot your first match.

If you like it, and you will, then you need to join.

PDX area, are you planning on coming out to Tri-County?
April 4th is next match day. Get there early, as the cops are using part of the range, and they start early and get the "good" parking places.

Drop an email on the MD if you are not a TriCounty member and will need the gate code.

Sounds like a great time! Thanks for clarifying that up. I have been wanting to get into this for over a year now. I probably wont be able to make it to one until the summer months due to work but I have been slowly practicing and getting gear. Planning on shooting a CZ Sp-01 9mm. Just waiting for a bladetech holster to come also.

I am planning on going to Tri County. I have checked out their website. This place helped out a bit too.

If your practicing and stuff like that, keep in mind that TCGC has a very strict "muzzle over the berm" policy. The SO who runs the new shooter squad WILL DQ you very quickly. If your gonna practice for comps at TCGC, make sure you focus on muzzle control. DONT do high reloads, DONT sweep yourself opening a door, getting out of a vehicle, drawing from a seated position etc....Know where your muzzle is pointed at all times!!! Keep it down range, below the berm and not pointed at yourself. I can't even begin to tell you how many people I've seen DQ'D for muzzle control issues. I can't stress that enough....

Sounds good. Thanks for the heads up! I've been reading through some of these IDPA threads and saw some of the talk about getting DQ'd for muzzle control. I will definitely start working it in mentally on range outings and practice at home. Really would hate to get DQ'd at a first outing so I think I'll take it slow and safe.

Yup, that SO disqualified me on my first IDPA event but at least it was towards the end of the day. I was engaging a target 90 deg to my left and had to reload. While I was reloading I went past 180. Of course I was already facing 90 to the left, so I learned a lesson there. Still a hugely fun day. Coming back for more.

That's a tough one. Other ranges don't care about pointing upwards.
TCGC had to close a range because a bullet went over a berm and into someone's house.
Every gun range is reconsidering it's policies in light of TCGC and Clark Rifles incidents.

It's been said "we are one bullet away from being shut-down forever"

Perhaps fxdc meant USPSA or 3-Gun. DRRC hosts both these activities.

"Resist the urge to pick other people's nits"

Perhaps he did. I don't recall any response.

From his post, it seems that he may know the difference between IDPA and IPSC/USPSA.

I wasn't sure if fxdc was using "DRRC" to refer to a club other than Douglas Ridge Rifle Club (located in Eagle Creek, Oregon - I wouldn't be surprised if there was another, with the same/similar name, located elsewhere)... or, if they had started an IDPA program that I wasn't familiar with... or, if they were running "not-exactly-official, IDPA-like" matches, or...

I asked because I was interested in the chance of learning something new and unexpected - another opportunity to participate in matches in the Portland area. Requesting clarification shouldn't be attacked - correct/accurate information helps the readers. Does incorrect/incomplete information help any of us?
