I assume anyone who already has 1 AR has some extra magazines, and the back left pocket works well enough for 1 spare mag in a pinch.
I had in mind using the less prepared among my "crew" as support for the shooters.

Cpl Upham was a translator, typist, and ammo bearer.

The choice of using a firearm for self defense is a VERY personal issue and something that should NOT be taken so lightly as to ever consider handing one off to an inexperienced person who has potentially NEVER taken it upon themselves personally.

I would NEVER hand a firearm to ANYONE who has never expressed an interest to shoot, own guns or who have maybe shown an 'anti' position with guns at any time.

And that guy couldn't even do those jobs. There are definitely some people I'd prefer to do without than have their "help." I already told my wife that in an emergency her sister and brother-in-law can go live with her parents because I don't want them as a hinderance and liability.

But anyway - Regarding extra guns. One viewpoint is simply from the perspective of traveling. For example, I like to go visit family multiple states away. If something big cooked off and I didn't feel it was in our best interest to head back home for a while I'd appreciate it if my family member could hand me a spare carbine. It's not that they have to buy something specifically just for me, if they already had multiple it would be fine, but if they only had one, that would be unfortunate.

I'm the only person in my family who owns firearms. Not many friends nearby who I trust to handle one either. The one person who lives close and who I'd trust out-guns me.

Cooper went on and on about arming the natives/heads-of-state security with single shot shotguns.
They'll smoke a dope but if compromised or turned, not a serious threat to the primary security persons.

SHTF presents a whole lot of questions. I have family and friends who get the keys to the palace, but neighbors I hardly know? Too risky IMO, Are they going to shoot through their walls and mine. Are they going to vanish with my gun. I might help with ammo but I think I'll pass on handing out weapons.

I got some shotguns, I got some handguns, I've got some black guns, I got some commie guns, but you can't have none, no you can't have none….

Because you were too dumb, yeah you were too dumb to buy one when you could get one…. and now you're too poor and can't afford it, no you can't afford it…

That's all you got? Kinda light. Guess I'm glad I'm not your neighbor.

I can't see it as black and white as that. In a desperate situation, with a reasonably competent person, if for no other reason than a deterrent, I'd be OK with giving a non-shooter a gun. I assume in combat there are times when someone can send lead in a general direction for a while is a big help.

…your pics are moderately impressive
Stomper, I think they said you had a small weenie too! Haha

For the sake of discussion, perhaps many are overlooking some basic reasons YOU may be the recipient of said weapon. Does everyone regularly bring a long gun to family events? God forbid, but what if "the big one" occurred during a family gathering? We have seen urban "protests" run rampant quickly. You may be long term staying in place or needing said rifle to make your way home.
Even if you keep a "truck gun", you really flying with that out of town, just because? Your truck gun a top shelf DD or Noveski?
If so, your prep game amp definitely goes to 11!

Can't assume others are untrained or unprepared. IMO, part of preparing is having others prepared. I feel good most of my circle have a lil something extra available, just in case.
I also recommend to others and use PSA lowers on many of my builds. The enhanced trigger is "ok" to "good". Much better than milspec. (Mine gettin a Geissele anyway.) I literally can't buy an Aero lower, Magpul furniture, brace and LPK for less than what PSA puts together, especially on sale.
I find the uppers as solid value as well. Again, I'm upgrading the bolts to chrome or NiB and BMC/Vltor charging handles, so I get a bunch of backups for the parts box.
