It looks like our recreational shooting in the great outdoors is about to get some unwanted attention. There isn't much in the news at this point, and I'll leave a link to the most unbiased story I could find at this point, but it's pretty clear the shooting is being covered by the media as an act of unjustified homicide. The fact that every story mentions the use of a SWAT team to apprehend Cody Nutter, I wouldn't expect this to help our efforts to be seen as a group of responsible recreational shooters. It does appear, by what little about the reports that is consistent, that Mr. Nutter biggest mistake was to not contact the police if in fact this was self defense, and may have intended to elude authorities. In my opinion, whatever he may have done wrong, or even criminal, is on him. My concerned is that people already unfriendly to gun culture may now discover for the first time it is legal to go out onto public lands and target shoot.
A 35-year-old man died Saturday evening in North Clark County after being shot multiple times. Another man is in custody and has been charged with murder.
