This won't last long. They will find out they get overwhelmed, have a hard time finding volunteers on the FFL to do the paperwork, and start requiring appointments, then they will quit all together. I give it a year max.
I would like to see TCGC offer a trailer space for an FFL to operate a store from and not charge any rent with the expectation that the FFL will do the background checks for members buying or selling for no fee (except for $10 BG fee) They have space in pistol range parking area right up front by gate.

I don't think that would work out legally. With an FFL, you can sell at the address on your FFL, and real gun shows. I don't think a trailer at the range would quality, and why would a businessman do trandmsfers for free? We are not a socialist country.

Why for Free rent, this would be the FFL's Store why wouldn't he/she be able to do transfers at their store.

If this is their store, then they can only do them there, not their actual store, or home, or wherever the real storefront is. That would be very inconvenient. If they are in business, why would they do transfers for free?

Not to mention that you just limited your customer base to members with the gate card. Seems what you want would only benefit you and nobody else.

They would have to make provisions for the FFL to be open to all customers. If that wouldn't work then maybe the range could operate their own non-profit store.

You can't just let anyone on the range. Why should it be nonprofit? It's a business. You can't have everything be free, that's not how the world works.

Relax. I believe the TCGC range is a non-profit entity. They are not in the business of making profits.

Edit: Membership Tri-County Gun Club is a private, non-profit corporation organized as a 'social club' under IRS Code 501(c)(7).

The money they make goes into improving the range. They spend it all on improvements. No profit, no improvements. SMDH....
They make plenty of income from membership dues and these have resulted in many improvements. The original discussion that started this thread was the range offering free transfers. I was simply suggesting other ways they could do this with out involving volunteers. Sorry to ruffle feathers. MWIDH

FYI/FWIW, I was at the club today and after shooting, I went up to the clubhouse to hang out/bs. The club staff were setting up for new member orientation. I briefly chatted with the operations manager about the current wait times and he said it's around a year....

I signed up on the waiting list May 6th of 2018, got my email yesterday morning inviting me to join. New member orientation for me is on the 16th, so right around a 7 month wait from when I first added my name to the waiting list.

I'm sorry to hear about the long wait. Back when I joined, there wasn't one. My only wait was about a week for the orientation.

The new 'short distance pistol range' was a great addition. https://tcgc.org/facilities/short-range-pistol-range/ The convenience of the crank target carriers, and no ceasefires, makes me more likely to run out to the range on the spur of the moment to practice. I'm retired, so can go out on weekdays, and there's always been at least one 'range' (of four) open—I don't know how it is on weekends.

At first I resented having to join the NRA, but subsequently increased attacks on our 2A rights makes me glad to have at least one powerful organization in our corner, and I'm O.K. with paying my dues.

TCGC is a 501(c)(7). That means it is a member based non-for-profit organization, in contrast to a 501 (c)(4) which is community based. The club currently loses money on transfers because of the staffing requirement, but is happy to do this as a value added service to the membership. The $10 OSP background check is passed on to the member to help keep the cost to the club down a bit. There would be too much fuzz on the interaction between TCGC and a for-profit company running an FFL on the grounds of the club. That being said, there are irons in the fire to try to offer Members more FFL opportunities. (BTW- I can speak with a bit of knowledge/actionable intelligence on these subjects)

Some might not know this, but Oregon allows private transfers of guns at gun shows, if the party involved simply fills out the state of Oregon's gun show transfer papers. Then the seller or buyer calls the State Police and does the same check a dealer does. Pay the $10 fee by credit card, and the seller keeps the paperwork.
I've done this as a buyer and a seller, and it's as easy or easier than what is done at a dealer.
At the Oregon Arms Collectors Shows they have the necessary transfer forms available, so you can fill them out and make the call. Shows are monthly, and usually the 4th Sunday of the month. Schedule:
Gun Shows

That must be a "newer" requirement as again it wasn't when I joined and I've never been asked to provide anything
I know it has been a requirement to join for at least the last year if not more. I have heard they don't verify anymore once you are a member so you can choose to not renew once you join.
