Hey I'm new to Oregon, having shot in California for 10+ years. Want to say this is AWESOME. Super pumped there are proactive people to do this. Definitely the right way forward! Got the booth location from the first post and will look to visit it. Thanks and keep up the positive outreach! Love it.

This information booth program is on-going throughout the summer. We still need more volunteers who will staff the booth on Saturdays. The more people we have to draw from, the less work it is on the others.

Let us know by casting your Vote in the Vote Box at the top of this thread. I will then send you an invitation to join our booth leader group where we all discuss schedules and details.

Now is a real busy time in the forest for target shooting. We should be out there every weekend!

Thanks for being part of supporting gun owners!

Bill

Hi abirds,

We don't always have the booth located at the same spot or on every weekend. Next one will be in a week or two and will be on Hwy 224, just past Estacada. I'll post a map link with the location as soon as we nail it down.

We're building our team of booth staff people so we can do it on a more regular and consistent basis. We hope to do it as often as we can.

Thanks for your encouraging post!

Bill

Next booth location will be here, in the grass, at the 36 Pit. It's a few miles, (8-ish) past Estacata on Hwy 224. Just past the Memaloose bridge.
Sat, May 16th, 10 am to 3 pm.

I believe this booth could also be a good way to profile the types of shooters heading into the woods, granted 98% of the people that are going to visit this booth probably are not the problem. But there is no bad education on what you/we are trying to accomplish.

Another WET booth day. But good. Went well. Having the storage shed was nice and easy. Fewer items made it quick and simple to load and unload.

Handed our 25 -30 packets of information. Actually, that was real good considering how cold and wet it was all morning till 2 pm. Not all were out to shoot today. Many just wanted info for later. Only handed out about 4 trash bag offers (for free splatter target offers) and didn't receive any bags back. Not a good test because not many active shooters today, AND, Dump Stoppers had recently cleaned up that pit.

Had a few NWFA members stop by and say 'Hey'. Thanks guys! Great to meet you!

Thanks Ed Quinn and rangerlars for being real "Troupers" for the cause and manning the booth once again!

It did get a little busy at times. Like the extra added ventilation that corner sign? (So it doesn't overheat!)

We were well protected!

There was a Rafting ralley a little further up stream that drew a lot of people.

Sorry for the late post everyone, but due to unforeseen circumstances, confirmation of the booth set-up for today, May 30th was delayed - but, WE ARE ON! So, please join us up Hwy 224 past North Fork reservoir, at the entrance to the 36 pit (now open for recreational target shooting). Rangerlars and myself will welcome anyone who drops by after about 11:30 AM with helpful information and encouragement for our rights and responsibilities.
Thank you

Report from the field: A great day at the 36 pit in the booth with rangerlars and USFS volunteer Jim.
Despite the late start we were able to make strong contact with over 50 people, singly and in groups. We handed out 31 information packets with the regulations and ethical behaviors flyer: "Target Shooting in the Mt. Hood National Forest" + links to USFS and NWFA websites, a map of Clackamas county, (showing all the open pits), 2 paper target examples, and NWFA cards.
Plus, we handed out 5 box targets and a half dozen large garbage bags. All this between noon and 3 PM.
We displayed examples of acceptable targets, discussed unacceptable practices.
The whole concept and the specific message was very well received by all. The shooters we saw leaving were taking out the trash, and glad to see us doing our thing.
Many thanks to rangerlars and the USFS for the support and encouragement to continue this important public outreach.
Now, we need more of you who value the sport of recreational target shooting to join us.
Please help in this generous cooperative effort to provide information, and show your support for our rights and responsibilities.
Your participation may help keep public lands open for us all to enjoy.
Thanks!

Just received this email from Jackie Groce of USFS. Her message echoes the feelings of all those at the Clackamas River Ranger District. (Chris Bentley is the Mt Hood employee who made the above video).

Jackie's response, below, is a big part of why we do this. To work with forestry officials towards preserving our second amendment rights in shooting on public land.

We need your help to keep this program going. So, sign up and join us in our efforts. Whether you shoot in the woods or not, it makes a big difference in many ways.

Thank you!

This from Jackie...

Hi All!

I can't say how thrilled I am to see this video. Very nice job, Chris! It makes me proud to work with such dedicated and motivated employees and partners like Northwest Firearms.

Thanks to all of you for the progress you've made on the Mt. Hood National Forest thus far to educate people on appropriate recreational shooting methods.

We are still recruiting volunteers to help with running the information booth. Let us know if you can help. We need lots of volunteers to help share the booth time. It IS a lot of fun! You will not be disappointed!

Bill

We could do it any day. All we need are two people to agree on a day. We have a special team, in a 'conversation group', that chats about when they want to do the booth. Once we match up 2 for a day, go for it!

Care to be included in that group?
