That's quite a first post for a brand new member. At the risk of sounding like a complete jerk, the story sounds fishy.

If it isn't, and your family legitimately has a problem, "untraceable" firearms are now illegal and are a felony. Your best bet is to contact to the police and file a police report and a restraining order.

Good luck.

As far as the firearm community goes, the recommendation in a situation like this is to file a restraining order. Depending on your location, if your family member doesn't already own a firearm, they may not be able to purchase one or get a CHL in a timely fashion. The most important part is that if your family member has never fired a firearm, without training, the firearm would likely be used against them.

Good luck.
