Perhaps you are correct, I am not certain of the exact wording and the wording could also change before final passage (if passed)...

I based my earlier comment upon the following statement from the website of the Washing State Attorney General;
"Senate Bill 5078 prohibits the sale, attempted sale and distribution of high-capacity magazines. It does not prohibit the possession of high-capacity magazines. The bill now heads to the House for consideration."

Pretty much like a dagger.. you can possess it, in your house.. for the most part.

You can't travel with hi cap mags loaded or carry them except empty to designated shooting places
But Pigs can't stop and search or ask you can't questions when not committing a crime. Therefore they can't ask you how many rounds you have in your gun..

The same ban will be coming to OR shortly. I tend to follow the law as a matter of self preservation in the current political climate. Liberal prosecutors will try and hang you if they can find a way to do so.
I am fine with carrying a 45 with an extra mag. If I find myself in a situation where I need more rounds than that, I will be looking for an escape route anyway.

nevermind, I read the engrossed substitute bill and the substitute bill is totally different.

Well this thread kind of derailed into the politics of the matter. Not reallly my aim. Since I frequently carry a 6 plus 1 subcompact with a spare mag in the warmer months, I guess a 10 plus 1 40sw with a spare mag will be fine the rest of the time. I will just spend more time and money on training to make shots count.

Nevermind, I'm still trying to figure out which is he last eat version of this bill. Thx

The G27/33 is no joke. It was my first real carry gun. The uber-tiny 9's have taken over the spotlight recently, but the original is still a solid contender.

Ok so I read the substitute bill. So the big issue is for EDC, correct?

In terms of possession, it looks to me like grandfathered is ok subject to this:

And possession and use are subject to this:

So basically it punishes legal concealed carriers, who care about obeying the laws, but the crims are still going to carry their illegal guns with high capacity mags like they do right now. So basically no effect on crime at all but huge effect on law abiding citizen's ability to defend themselves?

No matter what this ends up looking like, if I was a WA resident I would be buying tons of mags for guns I had, plus guns I think I ever may have, and take photos of them right away.

In PDX police often collect 25-100 shell casings in a single shooting. I don't know about WA. This kind of law would have zero effect on the numbers of rounds criminals shoot but would limit citizens ability to protect themselves.

So let's say this law was passed and you defended yourself with a gun that held 16 rounds, the DA decided to prosecute you, and you were convicted. What would the penalty be? Would it mean u cannot own firearms, jail time, fine?, other?

If it saved you or your family, one would have to weigh the pros vs cons I guess.

It's scary how WA and OR keep passing laws that limit the good guys like police and law abiding citizens, while empowering the bad guys like releasing crims, revolving door arrests, etc.

I'm aging myself here a bit, but it was the original mag ban that helped me buy my first auto pistol. Went with a 1911 and never looked back. All my other pop-guns in 40 and 9 were bought much later.
During the great clinton mag ban manufactures did start to crank out a LOT of new designs around the 10 round mags. Read a couple stories from the anti people saying how horrible it was. That they were now making smaller more powerful hand guns because of the 10 round limit. Just showing that compromise always ends up we lose, they move one step closer to what they really want.

The big problem is gun owners who refuse to lift a finger
There's a massive problem with gun owners in different states pointing at states like California and thinking, "that crap will never happen here," or that it's "California's problem."

California is a disease. And like ALL diseases it spreads. It's only now that many folks from Washington, Oregon and Nevada are starting to realize they should have been paying a lot closer attention to California and should have actively got into and supported the California fight. Because at this point Washington, Oregon and Nevada are probably lost.

I'd love to be wrong about that...but I don't think I am.

No man is free until we all are.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Just an old man's observations, it's not that kali folks didnt stand up to the law makers. It's just seems they no longer care what laws are made. Once tyranny makes you a criminal it doesn't matter how many more laws they add.

Hey that magazine is against the law. Hey what isn't against the law?

Sounds like a LOT of gun owners. I do not own.....................so I don't care. Then one day they come for what they own and suddenly its "I HAVE RIGHTS!":s0054:

That or they are so worried about being in the perimeter of the laws that they immediately lay down in fear or a potential consequence. It's like quitting. Once you do it once it's that much easier to do it again. The politicians know this and will use it and the immediate compliance of gun owners to further their agenda. At some point we as a community have to be willing to take a risk and stand up. Sadly when laws are passed the group goes from a community to a singular individual worried about legalities. Quickly ready to lay down, justified by the legality of a new law.
