my wife never minded having guns around but was never into them. On our first year anniversary I bought her a Sig p238. Which got her wanting to go shoot "her" gun. Turns out she couldnt hit a car sized target 10 ft away with it. Then she tried my Full size colt 1911 45acp and she was damn accurate with it. Lost a few bets saying she wouldn't be able to keep good groups with it. So guess who got a 1911 for Christmas that year. Every time we go shooting she surprises me on how well she can shoot it. Few years after we took our friends shooting and she was showing my friends wife how to load and shoot while we boys were shooting clays. Now we got 2 kiddos. A boy and a girl and she didn't mind me buying them lever 22's to sit in the safe and waiting for the babies to come of age. We haven't been out shooting much since the little ones got here but that'll change once they little older

My wife was a hunter/fisher... that was an integral part of the attraction. Early on, before she gave it up, she was my deer hunting partner. Hunted with a sporterized M1 carbine that she had when I met her. We also fished every kind of fish we could. And danced away the weekends we weren't out in the woods or at some lake or river.

A true partnership. We just happened to agree on the other things I listed. Talk about compatibility! We argue about the small things, but never the larger issues in life... like whether I need another pistol (not really).
The first part of your post reads like a country music song. LOL. Nice!

Been married since 2001, wife grew up around guns and had always wanted one in the house. I didn't grow up around them, but became interested in them after living near Portland and seeing how the political landscape was favoring the Antifa and Islam crowd i knew I needed something more that a martial arts background to keep my family safe. It's been three years since my firearms addiction started, and now I'm at the point where I've outgrown my gun cabinet and need to invest in a new safe. Wife is pretty happy to have guns in the house again and just laughs now that I'm a "gun nut" and staunch 2A supporter. Brought home a new home defense shotgun last weekend and she didn't even bat an eye. I lucked out with her, wouldn't trade her for the world.

The other night, my wife told me that she likes knowing that I have a carry piece with me when we're out and about in Portland.
We had just parked in a closed for the day Parr Lumber parking lot to eat some take out dinner I had just picked up next door in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood.
I was eyeballing a guy who was eyeballing me and not in a friendly way, when she noticed another guy doing the same thing.
As I started the car she told me that she understands that the city isn't safe anymore, even in the old neighborhoods that we once enjoyed visiting and gets why I carry now.

No guns in the house for the first 25 years. She did not grow up around guns.

This year, she told me to buy bullets from her for Christmas.
That is really cool, my CRG brother/neighbor. I'm glad that worked out for you. My ex hated guns, didn't want them in the house. This was hard to accept for the longest time. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. However, I still don't feel like I need a gun to "defend" myself or my family.. Good job on hanging in there and having a good positive influence on your wife and good on her to want to change for you. A lot of times it doesn't turn out that way. I hope you guys have a merry Christmas buddy!!! The next time around, I'm going to be a lot more selective in who I end up with. She's going to have to love guns, or she's going to have to hit the highway!!!!!!;)

Thank you, BSA. I did notice we are neighbors of sorts.

I would actually credit the changing national and regional political landscape and her fascination with a Semper Fi FB page run by a fellow called 'Tank' that got her to see the light.

I have had a year to show her how responsible gun ownership looks.

And yes, the last time we were in a sketchy neighborhood, she looked at me to ask, I looked and answered, and not a word was said. But her shoulders relaxed.

Was she in an any more dangerous place she has been in the past - debatable.

Was she safe, and more importantly, did she feel protected - Yup

I carry in my city because I carry when I am awake.

Merry Christmas to you, too!

Man, unfortunately I can't get a concealed carry license without declaring intend to become a citizen. Whole lot more involved for me but I'm starting to feel the need for exactly those "sketchy area" protection. For now a large folding knife gotta do if it comes down to it.... :/ But yes, my wife and I stayed in hotels before where she felt better when the loaded handgun was on the sidetable...

Never marry someone you wouldn't go into business with. Afterall what is marriage but a life long partnership.

Marry me, marry my guns...

I wouldn't want a woman that was opposed to gun ownership... no matter what... firearms ownership to me is an indisposable part of life and citizenship. Necessary for many reasons and enjoyable/useful as tools to assist her and I in hobbies of hunting, target shooting, plinking, etc.

I don't care how good the lovin is... people need to choose spouses based on several needed compatibilities/philosophies.

In no particular order:

#1. Money
#2. Kids
#3. Religion
#4. Political ie; conservative, libertarian, liberal, socialist, leftist, etc
#5. Home ownership
#6. Investing/saving
#7. Firearms ownership
#8. Self defense, home defense
#9. Common interests/hobbies
#10. Sobriety
And the research shows that the highest correlation to a successful marriage is IQ.

I told her it was my job to protect her and our new family and how I chose to do that was 100% my call.

Exactly right. Women don't get to make defense decisions, although of course they have a reasonable say in safety considerations.

I am very easy-going with my wife; basically she calls most of the shots around the house. But there are certain areas where she simply must listen to me. Fortunately there is little argument about this; in fact we got our first gun after she suggested we should (living out in the country, listening to drunks on the road..). She's not much of a shooter, but she has her little revolver.

LOL.... My first wife was a Democrat (still is, as far as I know). She wouldn't even go to the Gun Show with me.

Aloha, Mark

My first wife grew up on a farm, guns were no problem! Took my second wife (city girl) to the LGS when we moved to the country and she picked out her first revolver. After some good training sent her to FAS for formal training, been back a couple more times plus other classes, she's loving it. She has moved to a Shield for CC and an M&P9 for home and woods.

My Daughter in law hated guns! His brother got him a personal lock box for one and he stored the rest at my house. She went to work at the local LEO House, now all guns reside at their home and, teaching their kids to shoot.
