My Glock 17 is probably on it's 5th range trip without being cleaned. If I was worried about my carry piece not working based on having a bit of grime from previous range trips, it wouldn't be my carry piece.

I'll clean it soon (probably) which typically is a more detailed cleaning given my otherwise lackadaisical routine.

I'm still surprised that more people don't clean on a regular schedule. Not so much a military deep clean, but a weekly wipe down. But my every day truck gets the same weekly attn. Check the oil, empty the trash bag, wash the outside, etc. DR

Once my rifles stop running, even after my dousing of lube, I clean them. At that point I figure I might as well do my carry gun too. When I change the RMR batteries on my birthday I usually give them a half assed cleaning as well. I have seen more malfunctions from shiity ammo than I have from carbon build up on a hand gun.

I have over 1500 through my G34 and almost 1000 through my OZ9 without cleaning.

I have guns like my bolt action .22 that I hardly ever clean because they just don't get dirty with the ammo I shoot in them. I have other guns, especially blowback designs, that seem to get dirty just sitting next to a box of ammo. And of course if I shoot steel cased .223 or 7.62 we're in for a thorough cleaning no matter what it was shot in.

I perform regular function checks, look for dust/powder buildup and if its inhibiting any function (SAs or revolvers) I'll perform a 'basic' cleaning to get them back looking pretty clean and smooth operating. Maybe a quick brush down the barrel but thats about it.

Complete breakdown and cleaning after a lot of shooting and typically in the winter. My 1911 is due for this soon!

Some of you would have a heart attack if you saw my AR15. Haha. Never the less my carry gun. I can turn a white rag black.
