What would be fun.... is to have 20 or 30 of us all meet there at the same time, park our cars in a row, and pretend we are trading guns. We could set up a few hidden microphones, and have someone in the background run a video camera. Maybe even stage it so a few people leave at the same time as some new people show up. To make it even more fun, we could all agree ahead of time to completely ignore him no matter how much of a tantrum he threw. Imagine how much of a hissy fit he would have running from car to car, hooting and hollering at us while we gave him the silent treatment and carried on with our transactions like he wasn't even there!

I like the way you think there Soberups. Would it be fair to assume you are a bit of a troublemaker that has a real low tolerance for BS? Yea, me too!

Walmarts right across the freeway and they could careless what goes on in their parking lot just sit there in your car for 45 min while your wife is inside and you will see what I mean LOL.

I'm surprised, by the descriptions of this ahsshatt, that he didn't roll up on a Segway with yellow flashing lights.

I think it'd be really funny if you got 30 of you there, someone running a camera and pulled that on him. ..

:p

Guys name is R. Russel, hes a jerk and doesn't know anything about the law. I had the same encounter about a month ago, won't go there myself again.... funny though when I asked him "what laws am i breaking?" (because he insisted i was selling "military style weapons":s0140:) he completely ignored my question. I had to laugh a little, still did the deal in front of him and then we parted ways. He thought he was doing a service by taking my licence plate #..... Thanks R Russel, where ever you are..... you're making the world safer in your rent-a-cop uniform.

The Woodburn Premium Outlets are owned by a big corporate mall chain called the Simon Property Group. Their corporate policy is to totally ban firearms from their property. Their corporation is very hostile to gun owners. And besides the stores themselves, the parking lots where everyone is conducting these transactions is also their private property too.

So while one would not be breaking any law per se, this is still an extremely bad place for doing transactions, as the owner of the property is hostile to gun owners. They have a right to enforce their rules of behavior on their property, and they can trespass anyone that does not comply with their rules. You would not go hunting on private property that had a NO HUNTING sign on it would you? Well, the Simon Property Group has the same right to decide what activities are allowed on their property too.

The worse thing that this security guard can do is to kick anyone off the property if they have firearms or other weapons in their possession. Now if a person actually refused to leave when ordered by the security guard, then you could potentially get into legal trouble for trespassing.

So this is not at all the security guard's fault. He is just doing his job, and following his employer's orders. All of you who have been using this outlet, need to find another place to do your transactions. Otherwise, you are just asking to continue to be hassled. which you no doubt will be.

And that would be an incredibly dumb thing to do, in my view.

In light of all the mall shootings that have taken place around our country in recent years, I would say that using any shopping mall for firearm transactions would be a bad idea in general. The only exceptions would be shopping malls that have a large gun retailer in them. I doubt one would be bothered doing transactions outside the Sportsman's Warehouse in Salem, or at the Cabela's in Springfield, despite the fact that those stores are part of a shopping mall. It would be impossible to have gun bans in place in those locations.

If you want to see what the Simon Property Group's official conduct rules for their properties are, here is a photo of the sign that they post:

Number 1 on the list should prohibit muslim women wearing their religious headgear. I bet they don't enforce that rule. It's their property and they can do as they please.

I believe there is a law against gun transactions in the parking lots or property of any store that sells firearms....
Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, Bi-mart etc. Gun Show parking lots also.
...

Do you also plan to start hunting on private property without first asking the property owner's permission??

This is no different.

.

It's a lot different. And yes - I hunt on on private property without asking permission pretty much every time I hunt - timber company property, open to the public for recreation, including hunting. When private property is open to the public, you don't need to ask permission to do legal, peaceful things on it - like hunting, or selling guns.

Are there signs that say "no selling guns in this parking lot?"

Not to mention that the "mall rules" is NOT what the security guard has his panties in a bunch over anyway.

He actually thinks private transactions are illegal, and has gone so far as to physically block people's cars from leaving.

This conversation is about to become a moot point anyway as soon as those "socially conscious" (and useless) loons in Salem pass SB941... except for those prohibited person that have already been buying/stealing firearms anyway.

As much as I'd be up for teaching this ignorant wannabe/wishhecouldabeen guy a lesson, it would do no good. He either doesn't understand the law, or more likely does, but gets his jollies by pushing his anti-gun ideals on law-abiding citizens. He should probably run for state office. Who knows, he may already work for Prozanski.

I would seriously look for someplace else to do transactions, there are plenty of locations right near that mall where you'd be far less likely to be bothered by anyone. Even getting the cops there, which wouldn't get you in any trouble, wouldn't teach him a thing. His mind is made up, and your on his turf.

Personally, I think setting up anything like what's been suggested to try and teach him a lesson could only turn out badly for us. If it were to leak out that that happened, it could become bad press, showing gun owners defying private property rules so they can do more of their "angry and impulsive gun fondling". Then you get a cry from uninformed people all over Portland and Eugene to demand an end to these dangerous public exchanges of military style weapons. It sounds ridiculous of course, but I think you all know that's exactly what could happen if we force more attention to it.

Malls around America are becoming increasingly hostile to gun owners, even though it's actual criminals that are shooting the crap out of those places. Heck, I feel so much more comfortable knowing that unarmed mall security is watching over my purchase of an Orange Julius. I know I can go safe home every trip I make.

In reality, I simply stay away from places like this. They have become a microcosm of the things that are wrong in this world, including an example of ignorance and big government control.

Who wouldn't feel safe seeing this as you walk in:

P.S. - nothing against those who work security, I'm only angry at the ones that like to exert their authority over others - same goes for regular LEO's.

He actually thinks private transactions are illegal, and has gone so far as to physically block people's cars from leaving.

And at that point, you should be calling 911 for being illegally detained. He has no authority to do that, and it's pretty damn dangerous and foolish - if he thinks you're doing something dangerous or illegal, what the hell does he think he's going to be able to do if he just blocked in two guys conducting an illegal drug transaction? That's a pretty damn stupid move. I suspect a couple of druggies would have no trouble icing this guy rather than sit there for any kind of questioning.

I agree with LJ - just avoid doing gun business there. Nothing good can come of it, and something bad might happen.

All he has to do is lie and say he asked you to leave and then it is his word against yours.

If you had a gun hating neighbor, would you go do a gun buy/sell/trade in his driveway just to provoke him?

I think some of the rules of self-defense is don't go looking for trouble, and don't intentionally escalate the situation.

Not specifically, but it does say no weapons...

Posted where? I've parked in that lot a hundred times and have never seen one.

I'm not condoning stirring hornets nets - I said "it makes me want to," I did not say "let's do it!" I'm just pointing out that it's not as cut and dry as some say.
