In The Godfather Al Pacino fires a gun one time on film that might have required 10-20 takes. Pretty easy for him to check the gun each time.

In A western or war movie where the guns are fired thousands of times im not sure any set actually would have the actors check the guns each time before they pull the trigger.

As far as pointing it someone - well, that's what movies do. You point at the camera for the close up. You point at other actors. Etc. So the basic firearm rules are a little different

That being said - you could still be reckless - pulling the trigger and pointing at others when the shot doesn't call for it, skipping your gun safety training, etc. Baldwin was also the producer, so in theory he is held to a higher standard….
