People keep defending 1911's as being a safe gun, but the fact is that the gun's design is now over 100 years old.

Well, it is a safe gun, but you have to take into account the gun's design. Some guns are more idiot-proof than others...

Actually, anti-gun groups and individuals have had a field day publicizing this accident, and spreading word about it on various online forums and on Facebook.

In a nation of 300 million people, it will always be possible to find examples of stupid or unfortunate behavior on any particular subject. The Ministry of Propaganda has only to pick and choose which ones to publicize, and if these aren't exactly right for the purpose they can modify the "facts" to suit, or use prejudicial language to slant the picture. People can then be stampeded by a few anecdotal events.

There isn't much that can be done about this, except that now we have the internet, and we can play the same game (say, publicizing bad events that would have been prevented with a gun). Of course we should always strive for honesty, and avoid some of the tactics used by the Ministry of Propaganda; our reputation depends on it. Anyway I wouldn't get upset at this particular event. It's all a big game. The rulers no longer control the gateways of information. Too bad, so sad.
