Interesting...they at least fielded a decent sampling. That being said...they still left a lot unmentioned.

'Best' is a very subjective term based on many intangibles...maybe someone needs stainless over carbon. Maybe someone has very large or small hands. Maybe some needs Kraton for cold environments or a pointer tip. Maybe someone is looking for a primary to work with their secondary knife. Maybe someone is more into 'survival' while another puts a higher value on being able to neatly slice tomatoes at the camp site, where a $15 Mora beats a $300 Heavy Duty blade. Maybe one wants more of an out of the box system like the Grylls Ultimate Pro (Underrated knife IMHO). Many, many, MANY variables.

I'd agree Fallkniven puts out some nice knives (and would be on my list of top blades) as does Tops, but there's plenty out there. Personally, as much as we try to find THE single best knife, it probably doesn't exist. A decent heavy duty fixed blade high on durability, able to weather the elements, is probably backed up by a decent stainless folder or multi-tool for the smaller, finer projects, just for perspective. This is for more 'out there' activities...not just knocking around the camp site or on the well established trails out of a big camp ground.

But its always nice to see review.

I agree with Boss; there is no "best' IMO - there are a lot of different knives for different purposes.

The trend today seems to be towards lmedium arge macho knives, but I like 5" blade at most, preferably 4". E.G. I like the Fallkniven F1 over the S1.

Helle makes some great outdoor knives, the harding is a good full tang hunting knife. Their knives are all hand made in Norway, so the quality is hard to beat. Scandi grind is good if you find yourself needing to reshape the edge. If I'm bushwhacking I'll clip the glock 81 field knife on my pack, its proved useful as a little machete if needed. I couldn't pick just one, even with a stout fixed blade on my belt I would have my every day folder in my pocket.
