Hadn't been in the new Cabela's yet so I stopped in to check it out.

Needed my holster & gun to match something up in the gun section

I see the man at the "check your guns here" podium

I have no problem with that at all, it's their business, they can make the rules as far as I'm concerned.

Trigger lock and a tag with my name on it and calls an escort to carry my gun, got no problem with that either

But then he opens a binder and writes my name in it along with others before me.

Creeped me out, why do they do this?

I got my first conceal carry in Oregon in 1971, would have felt better if he'd just asked to see that as I don't know who gets these lists or what they do with them.

Are Oregon conceal carry a matter of public record?

In case there's a dispute later about how they lost/ switched your valuable gun maybe?? All I can think of, perhaps I'm missing something. Was your gun to be in your sight at all times?

I dont think I'd voluntarily let then know I was carrying. Is there a sign that actually says that you cant conceal carry? I could see checking in a gun if you were going to try to sell it or trade it in, but I would not check in my conceal carry. Sportsman's has something like that for unholstered weapons like returns, but not for concealed carry weapons.

Make sure you fill a privacy request at the Sheriffs office so they do not disclose your info to the media and the like when they ask. Not sure if all county's offer it, but CC does and I am sure others do also.
As for this logging thing at Cabelas, that should not be done at all. If they want to tag and lock a carry in gun that is one thing, but never a Concealed handgun, and they should not be entering it in a log book. Sportsman's does check and put a tie in a gun, to carry it back to the gun counter, but they never log anything. And you do nothing with a concealed handgun when carrying with a chl.

Just look up if it fits, or buy it and test their return policy and fit it in your vehicle, reholster your CC and if it works it works, if not return it.

I do believe the checkpoint up front is for longarms anyhow.

I would NOT disclose to an uneducated
(and yes, been to C's a few times now.. Have yet to talk to a firearms educated employee) stranger that I'm armed.. It's just asking for trouble.

I checked the outside windows and there were no signs but once inside your met with a store worker at the podium.

I didn't want to set off any metal dectector alarms or anything so I told him "I'm carrying conceal carry today and it's loaded, first time here, how do we do this"?

He says I'd have to go back out to the parking lot, unload it and leave the ammo out there, so I did.

Came back with empty gun and asked him if he wanted me to lock the slide open, he says no but can't latch the M&P Shield, too stiff, so I did it while pointing the gun down this bullet trap tube.

At NWArmory I've always pointed my gun at the floor, locked open the slide and handed the hand gun grip first to the guy or gal helping me at the counter.. courtesy.

I've bought all my guns at NWA and will stay with them especially now since I have a "record" at Cabela's

ah ok, I think I would just meander right by the podium and not announce anything unless I was open carrying or had a rifle. And believe me, Im not one to try and stir up trouble. But they are not going to have any idea that you are carrying and I know Im not stirring up trouble.

Remember, the most they can do is ask you to leave if someone noticed. And if something did go down in the store, they are certainly not going to try and protect you.

This is definitely a beg forgiveness rather than ask permission kind of situation

Cabella's policy is that any arm not carried conceled must be checked in and trigger locked. As for your name, I'm certain that was about making sure you couldn't come back later and claim your gun had been stolen. Nothing Nepharious about it.

STOP telling anyone that you CC.
There is no need , there is no requirement, and you will only cause yourself grief.
Concealed is concealed and that means it is no one's business but yours.
That is part of the definition of concealed....................... ie; Out of sight, out of mind,

.

Thanks for adding that Taku, it needed to be mentioned.

People forget or just don't know or think,
We fought long and hard to get the Must issue CHL passed in Oregon. As much as I hate
any licensing, or control on firearms at all. There was too much control in each Sheriff in
each county and when they were not gun friendly the people paid the price by being denied
a permit. In Clackamas county they use to issue a paper permit, that was gun specific, and when you wanted to carry something different, you had to apply all over again and they were also hard to get.
Some counties issued none at all. Now we have a reasonable, unreasonable system that they must issue, unless a criminal record is in the way. Use it as it was designed and that is concealed is concealed. There is no need to broadcast that you carry or even let a single person know, unless a LE happens to ask you if you are armed, say like at a traffic stop. Other than that you need not disclose the fact to anyone.

All that for NOT reading the Sign............

I do believe your comment about reading the sign solved the problem Sgt.;)

So many people CC and for some reason still want the world to know.

Danged if I can figure it out....Good Day Gent's

But wait, there's more, don't anyone leave the store...

Once the podium paperwork is done it's handed off to my escort, it's all good...

It may have been his first contact with a real firearm as he carry's it out in front of him pinched between thumb and finger much like you'd carry a Rattlesnake.

It catches the attention of other customers too and they're looking back and forth between me and this hand gernade with the pin pulled out

< Why they don't have school shootings in Israel.
Notice the long gun slung over the teachers shoulder?

Read the sign board!! If you have a cc keep it that way.
Yep, that's the way it is at the Lacey WA one.
