If you borrowed money to buy stocks you got a margin call. Probably had to sell to cover the call...bad investment strategy, and your broker went into bonds to cover his bubblegum. All these situations contribute to the slide. JMO

Again, Bitcoin. Fake currency that now many nations and large banks are refusing to work with. LOTS of heavy investors dumped money into it, now they're running away from it. Big impact on the DOW.

I'm not worried. We've been overdue for a correction. Part of the normal cycle of the market. The 2008 crash had a lot of precursors and actually quite a bit of warning (that many ignored). I don't see that here now. The stock market is definitely an up and down thing - no one should be in it if they panic at the sight of a correction.

Out of curiosity, I logged into one of my retirement accounts - the losses of last week and today have dropped my total balance by less than .01% so far. Not to say there's not more to come, but so far, no big impact here.

Most of the time those lag a few days. I would be interested to see if that still holds true the end of the week

Most people aren't buying on margin (that I know of); most people with heavy market assets are older and they are in retirement vehicles, not investment accounts (margin)....this isn't the 30's or 70's.....and if they are......Agree 100% bad call and strategy if that's what you were depending on with no back up......

BTW your broker doesn't invest in bonds to cover your bad call/put.....but they may up his/her E&O insurance.....just saying

I've got 30 years to retirement so the best thing for me is for the market to plunge to bargain basement, I up my contributions to max, and once it recovers, start moving some money into stable funds. Sorry older guys.

Honestly though, I don't bank on anything being there when I retire, and definitely not the pyramid scheme known as SS. If it is, great but never a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, but have no plans to make any changes, even with a drop. At this stage, I still have enough years to work that I can weather some downturns. It's a given in the stock market. Looking at the economy overall, things are looking very positive - I do believe this is the adjustment that's been predicted for a little while now.

If you still have time, then there can be a benefit to a downturn - if you continue your regular contributions. You end up buying shares at a lower price, so you're buying more shares. When the market recovers, you can gain $$ even faster. My account grew much faster after the recession, once the recovery started, than it had before the crash. I regained what I lost and started growing much faster. This last year, since Trump was elected, I've seen more growth than any other time in my career. It would take a lot to erase those gains. I have at least another 10-15 years to work, so I'm still feeling like I've got time to weather the storms.

What goes up must come down .it has been going up and up and it started to drop a little and people decided to cash out and pocket some money I wouldn't panic just yet

With the lengths the liberals and anti-americans like soros will do to destroy america I'd surprised if this wasn't done on purpose and will continue to happen through the next election.

These traitors are completely fine with destroying america and remolding it into their socialist mecca

Well, if you want volatility, today should have satisfied you.

I am thinking of moving some of what what I have in bonds into equity - but I think I will wait a day or two to see if it goes down some more.

I believe it is just profit taking. Computers automatically buy and sell stocks any more. Most large American companies are having record profits.

And/or some people getting out.

The trading up and down was too fast to be anything but automatic.

The economy is good.

This is actually what I have been looking for; a chance to move some of what I have in bonds into the stock market, but it has been too high and too likely to correct. So I am going to wait another day and see if it goes down some more before I make my move.

Buy low, sell high.

I think it would be smart to move into cash if your a investor until things settle down and the correction is over. I will sell almost all my put options in the morning if its not looking like another down day and will wait to get back in. Made a killing last week and today.

If America is destroyed, it wont be the multi-gender, dope smoking, antifa, welfare leaches that build it back up.
