I find it odd that people who can't afford any real property, act like they live on 1000 acres. Sorry, your home isn't your castle when you need fire, police, water, electricity, schools, welfare, disability, food stamps, etc. If you want to shoot your guns, do it in a place where you don't bug other people. You choose to have neighbors, start acting like one.
define real property
I find 5 aces as much as I can handle, but I'm zoned Rural - one can have 5 acres and still be in an incorporated area where shooting is not allowed
if one owned 1000 acres, you would need a staff to maintain it, illegals are the most cost effective
with only 20 acres, the neighbors have large families to work the property
there are 4 former Californian's on just 10 acres each now on our road - they have professional handymen and landscapers caring for their places
a church group owns 10 acres nearby - they have a family living on the property, but congregation member come out evenings and weekends to work the community garden
police are the country Sheriff - 20 min out
911 Medical is 30 min out
fire dept is volunteer - they get here when they get here
welfare, foodstamps, ect - those type of people move back to Vancouver for social support
disability - mine was deposited in my account on a regular basis, the same as my Social Security is now
life is good on just 5 acres on the North Fork of the Lewis

when my wife suffered a medical emergency due to new medication, 911 told us to drive to Woodland in Cowlitz Co
we live on the border of Lewis and Cowlitz and 911 services from Cowlitz can't cross county lines
they met us at the bridge over the Lewis coming into Woodland, treated her at the Arco station

Heck. New Neighbors call the cops because the cows in the field by the road are mooing to loud in the morning. We are in town, but adjacent to some larger fields. New folks went ape when the tractors started up to hay at 5am.
LOLLL
I have heard of that, but not out here
even I have LED lights on my compact Kubota for working after dark - that's after 9 at night

Not sure how you figure how you can tell anyone that they cant legally shoot on their own property.
I bought my property based on the fact that it shares a border with a national forest. That forest provides many thousands of acres I can legally shoot in. This is what I have been doing for the most part. The forest cinder pit where I and the locals shoot is about 1300ft from my place. I was hoping I could improvise a building that would asborb the shooting noise to the degree that my other neighbors would think I was still shooting at the pit when I was shooting from my yard.

I found a 5 acre plot zoned for Rural - talked to the neighbors and found no one objected to shooting
my plot is 1200' long, with another 1200' to the country road behind it - no dwellings behind us
I researched and purchased this place for the intent of being able to shoot on my own land
one does not need 1000 acres to have a place to legally and safely shoot without disturbing neighbors
but even 5 acres can be a burden once you get into your 70's

LOL, one range I knew had a new development built right next to it. They sold a couple of units, less than 50 yards from one of the firing lines, while the range was temporarily closed. The new owners were livid when the range reopened. They called the Police, but they had already been notified that the range was back in operation. Nothing they could do about it. According to them the realtor told them that you couldn't hear the range from inside.
Moving targets are often entertaining. I bet that realtor would do just fine!

For most of my life my family owned about 400 acres in of all things, a farming area So. of Salem. People started moving to the area and old friends and neighbors began moving elsewhere. The new folks never liked my brother and I shooting even though we ALWAYS made sure of backstops and distances involved. Any complainers were met with a polite screw off. It became a game and we always won. State cops were called a few times and always told us to be careful, we always were. Be polite but be firm with neighbors. Also know that land owners/property owners are considered lucky, evil, rich, spoiled and many other vile things...but rarely hard working decent folks. Shoot on your land as is legal and ignore the neighbors.

I see no reason not to hijack this thread into a tractor porn fiesta...

nice tractor
I have a box blade instead of a back hoe
tonight my son pulled up 15 t-poles from an old fence with ours
I made him a short piece of 3/8" chain with hooks, wrap the chain around a t-pole burried 2' in the ground and let the bucket pull them out
ever tried to pull t-poles that have been in the ground for 20 years before?
REAL MEN own tractors
you can build a berm for shooting in just one hour with a front loader

People now days think they can tell other what to do on their land. Heck they will move in next to a race track, rail yard or airport and complain about the noise. It's up to us to stand firm and tell them that keeping their nose in their business should be a full time job for them.

both Washington and Oregon have Agricultural anti nuisance laws to prevent urban expansion from suing farmers and ranchers for just this reason

Meanwhile, here in UK -

Stephen Nolan says he's fed up with people moving to the country complaining about animals doing what animals do (Picture: SWNS)
A farmer fed up with 'townies' complaining about the noise and smells of the countryside has posted a funny sign outside his farm aimed at the moaners.
Stephen Nolan, 48, put up the notice after he received complaints on and off for four years about noise from his animals.

Another reason to live very remote. Always someone that inherited their house, didn't earn it. Fat, cpap machine, disability, every noise making toy on earth, couldn't care less about the law, manners, doing things right...it's about what he can get away with.

Live far enough away from the very services he so sorely depends on. He's not a problem anymore.
Starting to smell a little trollish over here.

My original neighbors were a couple who grew up on local farms. They were younger, rambunctious and loud. But, they did everything to include me (us once I got married) showed me some outdoorsy stuff and were good people. The few days a year when they got rowdy I just ignored them. Some neighbors called the cops but never went to them to say, knock it off.

If my plan ever comes together I will have land to shoot on legally. I would try to appease the neighbors but then they aren't paying my bills.

Ha!
Get a load of this dork!
