So we have someone who was Red Flagged, "authorities" came and took a gun, yet somehow the approval process to buy a new gun still worked?

I did not know that. But then I haven't been following the story all that closely. So far all I know is he shot a bunch of folks with an AR, including a guy trying to get a pistol out of his car trunk, and he looks like an Incel. Your posted info is new to me.

Looks like he has gotten more guns since then. A lot more.
