There's zero evidence fracking has negatively affected groundwater.
It's not frequent, but the entire town near me had to switch to bottled water at one point and the water's offgassing was flammable right out of the tap. It was swept under the rug and no blame was passed, but it seemed like a pretty big coincidence since it coincided with the boom of the late noughties. Money talks and simple midwesterners' water doesn't matter if it cuts profits.

Not to mention the carcinogen-laden flowback being carelessly dumped into fields and ditches near livestock and crops to avoid disposal fees. The list goes on; I watched the process destroy my home and would hate to see that happen to others in more "pristine" lands.

That's also why Republicans in Nebraska didn't want Keystone XL running straight through their state. They pushed back for years in court and permitting hearings about alternative routes because they didn't want fracked oil spilling onto their farmland.

As outlined earlier, the primary effect of this will be make Americans pay more for oil, some other party (eg the Chinese) to pay less for oil, have minimal negative and possibly even a net positive effect on Russian oil revenue, and make the US economy less competitive. So, why is this being done? I hypothesize:

1.) The political class can say it did something to an American public who largely has no knowledge of commodity markets
2.) The Democrats can make a claim that inflation is due to Russia instead of their own horrible domestic policies
3.) Inept leadership
4) To get Russia to end their war/invasion against a sovereign nation, as part of a broad package of crippling sanctions.

What these geniuses do not under stand is Biden banning russian oil only hurts us more than Russia. This won't stop Russia in Ukraine one bit, but will hurt Americans and our economy very much by not replacing the lost oil.

China, North Korea will happily continue buying Russian oil.

Democrats can reap those $6+ gal gas prices. They will pay this November, it's just unfortunate, the damage will already be done.

4.) Dementia Joe struck up a deal for oil from some other oppressive, authoritarian regime, Venezuela per chance?

Have you lived in an area in close proximity to fracking? On paper it's great. In reality it was an ecological nightmare that also tainted our groundwater supply. Seismic activity also began where it had never been recorded prior. Also, allowing drilling in our Parks is a step I don't want to see. There are two sides to every coin and some barriers are a necessary evil.
Fracking isn't our only source of oil.

When Biden took office on Jan 20th 2021, he suspended Alaskan oil drilling.

...in a national wildlife refuge. A place sacred to the indigenous. I don't see a problem.
Got to get oil from somewhere.

Are you going to foot the bill to buy everyone electric cars? Build more nuclear plants to power those electric cars? Solar and wind power doesn't even come close to powering what we have, and wouldn't hold up to 1/4 Americans suddenly driving electric.

Going green has its price, and won't happen anytime soon.

That's quite a limited view... or more precisely, quite an expansive view. Please name a square inch of the United States that has had no relationship to "indigenous" people (and good luck with that).

Also to be clear, there is no such thing as an "indigenous" human species in North America. Everyone came from Eurasia (specifically Western Eurasia) as proven by studies of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Time to get off of that high horse...

Raze our country to the ground to own the libs, or branch out. Sadly it seems too many lean to the former.

So that's why you didn't see a problem with Keystone XL; it wasn't their land in the first place! Sitting Bull? More like Squatting Bull. /s

And sure, I'll saddle up Mr. Ed right here.

Glad to see you get the point. Every single human who came to North America was a colonist seeking to utilize the land and its resources for personal gain. To arbitrarily draw some kind of artificial timeline between "good colonization" and "bad colonization" is rather dumb and simply an exercise in bias. We're here now, it belongs to the United States, and that's that.

You either missed my sarcasm intentionally or didn't pick up on it. I added the /s for you. Might I suggest bringing your thoughts to the next town hall meeting, perhaps on a reservation? This land was theirs. We took it via bribery and bloodshed. The fact I'm having this conversation blows my mind.

You likely believe in the privatization of public lands as well; are you friends with Governor Gianforte by chance?

Excellent. If your mind is being blown then that is progress. Things which most enrich our lives typically come from either voluntarily stepping beyond or being forced outside our comfort zones. Glad I could be of service in providing the latter.

There isn't a problem when you offer to license a tax free casino. Money seems to trump sacred land. Isn't that what these protests are about?
