We have learned the Russian Army isn't really a match for any modern Army yet we still tell ourselves Russia is out to conquer all of Europe. Its almost comical and sad at the same time because we are bankrolling the fiasco.
It is true that the Russian Army (and Navy, and Air Force) haven't performed well. It is also true that Russia is run by a small group of people that seem to believe that if they don't bring back the Russian Empire, the country is doomed to be taken over by the West. When the leaders of a Authoritarian (meaning total dictatorship approaching personality cult) society decide that their continued existence, as well as personal legacy, involves territorial conquest, violence ensures. Putin's existential worries about Russia's future are eerily like Hitler's cries for "Lebensraum."

The irony of the situation is that the West is only interested in Russia from an economic standpoint. The real threat to Russia is China, which intends to rule the whole world eventually, and Russia's resources are a key part of that plan.

Russia and China are really two groups of Organized Crime which have developed strong areas of influence. It is only a matter of time before the two start deciding who will be the dominant gang.

And China is way ahead of Russia - but in the past ten years bit off more than could chew and allowed corruption to run rampant - but still way ahead of Russia. They are both very paranoid about the rest of the world and would do better if they weren't. The rest of the "free world" woke up in the last 5 years regarding the issues both countries present - Russia/Putin as a military threat, and China as both a military threat and supply chain issues/IP theft/etc. (including corruption).

I hope the "west" doesn't go back to sleep.

They buried the lede. This is really the only thing worth printing.

Casualties and death tolls in conflict zones are notoriously opaque, and analysts counsel caution with figures published by governments at war. Experts suggest both sides likely inflate the other's reported losses, and neither Moscow nor Kyiv habitually offer an indication of the damage wrought on their own militaries.

I think Russia has seen the success that Ukraine has had with drones and they will continue to attempt to replicate that success.
I am sure we will too. Weve seen the success theyve had using $400 drones and will replicate that buy spending $870,000,000 on a weapons development program headed up by Ratheon to churn out drones that will cost $45,000 a piece. We will buy 800 of them and 12,000 trainer units.

A previous post mentioned that Russia has suspended foreign oil sales.
Why? The press can say what they want you to believe, but in reality they're building-up their own stocks for the summer offensives.
Meanwhile, Nato has next to nothing, and the US petroleum reserve is at its lowest levels in decades.
England has admitted it could only "go to war" for ~45 days. France and Germany are in social/political turmoil with very little popular support for an expanded war.
The rest of Nato? mostly just a bunch of little piss-ant countries that would collapse in a heartbeat without supplies and money from the US, (you know the US is broke and our war stocks are low don't you?).
Russia is now producing three times the amount of artillery shells as the West, and now has an army larger than all Nato forces combined.
If I look in the crystal ball I can see a scenario in which Belarus, (Russia's good friend that's itching for a fight,) sweeps down into Ukraine from the North while Russia moves in from the East, if that happens then Ukraine is toast.
It's wet/cold and the mud is 3 feet deep over there right now, so both, (really all,) sides are playing with their rockets/drones, and a few aircraft.
Yes, tanks and such are easier targets when they have to stay on mostly prepared roads.
When the ground is dry and can support heavy transport and tanks then things change.
China has already said they will support Russia,
If the bear gets cornered, will anybody take odds that they won't "push the button"?
Make no mistake, a few mushroom clouds will ruin everybody's day no matter what country they live in.
The politicians? all of them are brain dead, if any of them had three brain cells they would never have allowed things to get to the point of even thinking of Nukes, but they toss that around like they're playing games with a school yard bully.

Theyre still making money. Lots of it.

How are they going to get cornered? Yep. Its mud time time Eastern Europe. Travel is limited to paved roads for the most part. Ukraine has zero defense pacts with anyone else and NATO isn't willing to risk sending troops into a country that isn't in the alliance. In a month or two Russia, who have been regrouping and resting for the late spring push will start their offensive against the Ukrainians who have also been resting and regrouping. This will go on for several more years with Russia making incremental gains until Ukraine concedes.
