Russia won't advance past the ethnically Russian areas. NATO expansion to Georgia or Ukraine is a mistake. We need to stop surrounding Russia. Instead of working on them we've driven them towards China. More of that "smart" diplomacy from Obama/Biden.

With Russia being the world's largest energy exporter and the US and European politicians and financial institutions waging war on domestic energy producers via "net-zero" and ESG mandates, Russia has little worry of serious sanctions over Ukraine. Europe desperately needs Russian natural gas due to EU bureaucrats decommissioning reliable base load power sources and implementing "renewable" initiatives that have utterly failed. If Russian diverts energy exports to China the price of oil and gas will go parabolic and Western economies will be ravaged by inflation. Biden should be far more concerned with the US/Mexico border than Ukraine. He should also be aiding domestic energy producers, but instead he is begging OPEC and Iran for more oil production while simultaneously shutting down pipelines, cancelling project permits and discouraging US oil producers from investing in more production. The story here is not Ukraine, the story is that the West is committing suicide via its energy, manufacturing and interventionist policies. I would not expect anything more than a bunch of political posturing and minimal sanctions over Ukraine. However, I continually underestimate the stupidity of Western leaders...

Putin wants to restore Russia to its former glory.
He has let his ego take the reins of leadership, similar to the current potato in chief. The only difference is Putin has all of his mental faculties.
