On November 5, conservative icons Dinesh D'Souza and Brandon Straka are coming to Portland for "Rescue America, a Portland, OR Townhall Event."

Before buying tickets, I emailed the organizers (Walkaway Foundation) to ask if there was any prohibition of licensed concealed carry. I explained that, "As a matter of safety, my loved ones and I avoid mass gatherings of guaranteed-unarmed people."

Their response:
"Unfortunately, we are not allowing any guns into this event. We will have ample security at the event including metal detectors. I'm sorry if this excludes you from the event but we felt it was the best option for our guests."

As I later wrote to a conservative radio host,
"Let's see. We have a publicly-announced mass gathering in the Portland city limits with a couple of outspoken conservative speakers. All 'deplorable' attendees are guaranteed to be unarmed while going to/from their transportation. Golly! What could possibly go wrong? And it's on Guy Fawkes night to boot!

I won't get within five miles of that event and I'll be warning everyone I know to stay away too."

I hope, should anybody be injured by Antif---sticks transiting to/from event, they name the organizers as Co-Defendants in the ensuing lawsuit.

Similarly, with Boeing's policies I have done my level best to serve fair warning that if some nutjob goes off in one of their facilities and my mother is among the casualties, I will sue the entire company, everyone in her management chain from 1st-line to CEO, their security contractors/in-house Paul Blarts, and the entire Legal Department both as corporate entities and individually/personally--and I will be inviting anyone else who has a loved one injured or taken from them to pile on and make it a Class Action.

Bankrupt 'Em All, I say...

It sounds like they're missing the point, and perhaps deliberately so. The violence almost always happens outside the event, when people who, as history has proven, can be trusted with firearms are met by people who have proven they can't even be trusted with milkshakes.

Precisely, it's not IN the door that's the dangerous part but getting TO and FROM it, and you can bet there are gonna be plenty of wannabe Brownshirts waiting for anyone who enters that Target Rich Environment.

If they were worth a bucket of warm pizz they'd provide a "Check Your Hardware" station...

I'm sorry but who are these two people and whys it important to attend especially out in Portland? Also why not some place more effective like Salem or maybe where it's not so hot?
Coupl'a dudes.

It's not important at all to attend, just wait a day or two for all the fun utoob videos and microwave popcairn.

These guys specifically target "hot" liberal areas. Berkley and such, carnage every time.

-my take, no dog, fun to watch.

LOL!

I don't know Mr. Straka. But Dinesh has been around for awhile. He was very vocal about Bengazi, has made a few conservative movies and written several books. Important to attend? ... That's a personal decision along the lines of whether it's important to attend a Rolling Stones concert... some fans will enjoy it and his presence should not be considered harmful in any way. Those that get all in an uproar about conservatives being heard need to give up the "cancel culture"!!

This is how Wiki starts on Mr. d'Souza:

Dinesh Joseph D'Souza is an Indian-born American conservative political commentator, author, filmmaker, and conspiracy theorist, often described as a far right provocateur by media sources.

Books and movies include:

Death of a Nation
The Big Lie
Hillary's America
Stealing America
Obama's America

As you can see, he's not a fan of those two politicians. :D:D

After the situation with Strickland what good would a gun do you? If you the show it they arrest YOU.
I agree but the idea that some might be armed can still act as a deterrent. The idea that everyone is defenseless is an attractant to violence.

I stopped almost all business in Multnomah County after the Strickland case for exactly the reason you mention. I was leaning strongly toward avoiding this event too but I had friends who wanted to go. I thought having it in Multnomah County is foolhardy. When they said it would be a no-gun zone, that removed all doubt. Now I'm just trying to get the word out.

If they told me my gun was fine you would not get me to this at gun point. The "problem" is going to happen outside. Since the place can't allow the kooks to come in and make a mess there is going to be lines. They need to make sure the kooks can't get in so they have to screen people. This is where the kooks who are embolden by Police being ordered to go hands off, look for victims. So great, one of the people in line pulls a gun and shoots a few, then what happens? Who in their right mind wants to go to something like this armed, knowing there is a real good chance they will have to shoot someone? It may be fun as another poster mentioned watching all the video after it's all over.

Don't forget that he got pinched for campaign finance violations and was subsequently pardoned by Trump. I mean, that effectively makes him the new head of the KKK, right?

Nothing they are going to say is terribly exciting, but it will conflict with the world view of left-leaning individuals. There will be protests outside and it'll make for fun clips.

Gettin' my popcorn ready. Extra buttery.

I don’t trust the Portland Police, or the event’s hired security, to be able to protect attendees. If the do-bads truly want to hurt or kill folks at the event, they’ll find a way. And Portland seems to be allowing the do-bads to thrive nowadays.

Even if I could carry a weapon into the event, there’s nothing happening there that I need to see firsthand - so the bother of driving to Portland, finding parking, and potentially running a gauntlet of sideshow freaks just isn’t attractive to me.

Would anyone consider offering secure escort from the parking lot to the event door?
If they do, this being Portland, and the kooks attack, what are the escorts supposed to do? Pull a gun and brandish? This will be sure to get you arrested. Pull a gun and shoot? At best you would be looking at years of expensive legal battles. So why would people want to do this?
