I went with an Aimpoint Micro

1301 chest rig.jpg

Downsides would be added weight,
Aimpoint Micros weighs 4.1oz (T-1) - 4.6oz (T-1) an RMR is 1.2oz, if that added weight is even close to a factor I'd question using a shotgun to begin with.

higher aim configuration,
I am 1/3 co-witnessed with factory sight using a CROM mount. Sure adding a pic rail section and a sight on top will get you up there, don't do that, there are plenty of low mounts out there.

possibly need to adjust your stocks cheek weld
See above. Even if it was an issue, Magpul shotgun stocks have a comb riser, I'm not using one.

Title says it all. If you were to put a red dot on a shotgun or if you have already, what would you/did you put on it and why? I'd assume LOW mount height would be necessary. And also something relatively small but rated to withstand 12ga

I see upsides and downsides.

Upsides would be having an illuminated aiming point at night, and a way to dial in your non-birdshot loads to a certain distance rather than relying on the front bead only.
I've been running one of these on my saiga 12 clone semi auto 12 gauge that has same rate of fire as the auto-12 fully automatic shotgun. I often shoot 12 or 20 round mag dumps. Hasn't missed a beat. Not bad for $12. I run 5 other ones on various guns also.

Thanks for answering and making bullet points i feel like youre the kinda guy who can answer my questions. Exactly what I want my 870 to eventually look like also.

Hey while I got ya-

-What are you using to mount your micro?
-What did you use to mount your tape switch I've been going over options for mounting my surefire pro with a tape switch I just want to know the best way to run a tape switch on a shotgun.
-It looks like you added a mag tube extension. Mine already has the extended from factory but I was even considering adding a plus 2, which would extend it past the muzzle. See any issues with that?
-Looking for a quality shell saddle. What brand are you using?

I use the Haught Mod

I am using the M-Lok version, but I would not suggest it on a pump. I would go with a light mounted to the forend with a clicky cap or get a Surefire dedicated light forend (you want to talk about weight)

I would not go much past (like about 1/2") the muzzle, although I've seen it done on competition guns go way out there. I use Vang Comp and Wilson extension on my 870s.

I'm very happy with my GG&G.

There are some compatability things to read though, and on my mariner with a slightly thicker finish it required some light sanding on the barrel nut to fit. (Couple seconds clamped in a drill and light grit sandpaper)..... Just to be aware to read the fine print of any side siddle mount you're looking at.

It is one of the only things they didn't knock-off from Aridus.

Thanks great info. How much weight are we talking with the surefire foreend I think I'd enjoy that

I guess I'd be okay with a surefire or even streamlight hlx with a click button
I have the Streamlight on one of my 870's and it doesn't feel heavy. I really like it. The controls are easy to use, it's got good color ("temperature") and it's bright as heck. It takes proprietary batteries though. They look like 18670's but they're thinner. I think you can use two 123's also, but those are really expensive. The battery thing isn't huge for me because I have a few Streamlight flashlights too, so I'm just resigned to checking which battery I have for which light or accessory. They charge on the same charger, so it's not a total loss.

That's terrific. I've destroyed at least two sub-$100 red-dot sights with just 10 or 15 rounds of birdshot and my Siaga12. Literally mag-dumping a 20-round drum and watching the sight die. They didn't shed parts, but they did stop working post haste. One of them rattles now. :) If that sight will last for hundreds of rounds on that gun, it's a keeper.

You mean the aimpoint micro their 2moa?
I'm pretty sure the dot is bigger than that. It has a ~65 moa ring as well. Works quite nicely. The shotgun is in WA right now, so I can't check.

Man, that is seriously ATaS. Is that using the Langton AK forened adapter thingy? I may need to get rid of the cheese grater that came with mine.
