The Rural Organizing Project (ROP) will be holding a public forum in Eugene's super liberal FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH this coming Saturday at 3pm.
For background on ROP, here is a link to their website:
Militia/Patriot Movement and Rural Organizing Tools - Rural Organizing Project
They are a very liberal organization, that is working hard to try to stop people from joining any of Oregon's militias. While fighting the militia and patriot movements in Oregon is one of their chief goals, they also fight for other progressive causes such as rights for the LGBT community, and opposing any efforts that are deemed to be harmful to immigrants. They support full rights for immigrants, no matter what their legal status is.

How They Divide Us: The Militia Movement in Oregon
The public forum is being co-sponsored by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Springfield-Eugene, Community Alliance of Lane County, and the Eugene Human Rights Commission.
During Saturday's forum, ROP plans to share the results of its secret investigation into Oregon's militia and patriot movements, and will expose those who are involved in extremist gun rights to be racists, and part of the white nationalist movement. They will also claim that these militias engage in violence and intimidation, and are terrorizing local rural communities in Oregon with their actions.
Can folks who are more familiar with Oregon's patriotic militias comment about this? Does this sound in any way at all like reality? Or is this some sort of fantasy that is being dreamed up, in order to demonize those who strongly support the 2nd Amendment?
I know that the Malheur Refuge incident angered many people. But those folks were all from out of state, and were not from Oregon. I've certainly never heard of any Oregon militia causing problems of any kind, and I try my best to monitor the news.
I think that this may be part of the overall effort currently taking place in our nation to demonize semiauto rifles, and those who own and shoot them. From their viewpoint, anyone that owns an AR-15 is both a terrorist and a racist too.
Could there be any truth at all behind their accusations? I suspect that this will be an extremely biased forum.
