My daughter had LEO at every entrance at her school yesterday. But that was only because some little knuckleheads made a PUBLIC facebook threat mentioning her school specifically. I don't think anyone who really wanted to harm/kill students would give us such a courteous heads-up. Therefore, her school would have no defense until AFTER something bad happened.
My wife teaches at a private school and several of her (sweet and unassuming) coworkers have told her that they would carry if given the opportunity. Being private, I don't see that as a reality.
I like the idea of a sky marshal type guard(s) at every school. I like the fact that the NRA volunteered to offer their services. If there was a special fund that I could contribute to that went specifically to that cause, I would donate to it. I'd even be willing to pay slightly higher taxes to support it. I like the idea of using former military. I like the idea of using trained parent volunteers.
Personally, I think it was a classy move to wait to comment beyond their initial short statement. They came out with some actual solutions. However, I think blaming video games and movies will be viewed as finger pointing or misdirection. I can't wait to see how this plays out. But I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I think some people here are being way too hard on Wayne and the NRA with this speech. That's not to say I trust the NRA entirely, but considering the liberals of this country are demanding to disarm and ban guns from law-abiding citizens, I think the NRA, itself, is caught between a rock and a hard place. Yeah, I do think violent video games, rap music, and movies that glorify murder and killing will desensitize people to violence. Personally, I think you have to be blind to not see the attitude in today's youth. This isn't to say even in a perfect society violence cannot exist. I don't think Wayne went as far as saying these should be made illegal. Although, you know how the liberals think, BAN BAN BAN.. If you are going to ban something, ban all the violent media and brainwashing tools before you ban an instrument that is not evil at all and has help saved the lives of many innocent people, the firearm. I'm really not for banning anything, I voted to legalize marijuana. Actually, I think we should legalize drugs and use the money generated from taxes to fund the School Shield Program the NRA is endorsing. Sure, we may have a few more drug addicts, but look at cigarettes. Cigarettes are legal and accessible to all, yet more and more people are quitting smoking as more studies come out about the dangers of cigarettes. I predict the same with any dangerous substance. Even less people are eating trans fatty foods now, because people found out "they are bad for you".

I am going to extend my NRA membership, maybe make a donation. Maybe they are an imperfect organization with flaws, but they are actually one of the most powerful forces now defending our gun rights. Wayne's message wasn't to you or me, it was to the fear-mongering, narrow-minded, ignorant liberal population that demands some type of immediate cure or fix. It's kind of like our pathetic mental health industry. They give you this or that drug to fix your depression, your schizophrenia, your anxiety, etc. Counseling, personal care and physical, emotional and spiritual support are almost never administered to these people. You just have some shrink with his $400k a year salary who is more or less a legal drug dealer giving all his mentally, emotionally and spiritually disturbed clients a "happy pill".

In reality, unless we live in a fascist police state like Nazi Germany were everyone is closely monitored and restricted from many of the freedoms of society, we are going to have murders, shootings, robberies, prostitutes, drug addicts and all the other pains that come along with a free society. There is no cure all or fix all except turning America into a fascist nazi-like/dictatorship country where everyone human is a subject of a very powerful government who has full control of the person and gives them a very limited set of rights.

After reading message after message on some sites I was amazed at the number of death threats and wishing for NRA executives and members to be killed! And this was coming from the anti-gun NUTS!
I didn't see any 2nd amendment supporters wanting the anti-gun nuts killed!

Simply AMAZING

I have also seen this since the shooting. I have seen statements that we should be sterilized, shot, we are baby killers, blah blah.

All its done for me is to strengthen my resolve. We can't let these people win, period.

I have tried to engage a couple but have yet to receive a response to my questions. I believe they are not capable of rational thought or civil discourse.

These weren't forums such as this. I'm referring to the comments section on various news articles across the internet over the course of the last several days. Today buried in the 2000 comments on the wall street journal had some genuine hatred, as did huffington post. These comments were on the article about the NRA press conference.

Yes, Wayne is bringing it for sure.

I can't agree. The speech was horrible. In Wayne's World, it's no longer the criminals fault, it 's the fault of violent movies and video games? Really? Follow that logic train straight to a gun ban my friends. What a joke.

Did you see the love we were getting on twitter ? That's pretty easy to confirm if you are so inclined.

Google; NRA members should be killed.

Some great screen shots.

If I come across any news article comments again I will grab those as stated earlier.

the vast majority of parents do not want armed guards at schools.

I don't care what you or the media thinks the vast majority wants. I want my daughter protected by an armed, trained, plain clothes security agent. If we aren't allowed to lock up the dangerously insane, and force them to accept treatment then that's the only acceptable alternative. Every one of these shooters has been known by friends or family to be dangerous. Some have tried to get help. There isn't any. The rights of the insane are more important than the lives of children.

i think thats a fine point to debate but to deny that MOST people are against that idea is wishful thinking' imo.

Did you see the twitter love calling for my death ? After more research I came across this awesome tid bit about one of the tweets.

As Twitchy points out, “@BayAreaHouston is not just any random Twitter user. He is John Cobarruvias, a Democratic Party precinct chair in Houston, according to Houston blog Big Jolly Politics. (Update: He is also member of the State Democratic Executive committee.)”

Anyway, gallop poll doesn't support your humble opinion.

One of those tweets came from a Democratic party chair, talk about lack of common sense. Trust me man, I couldn't care less. I was just stating I have come across the same stuff as the previous poster, I went back to huff and the comments are now over 50k, trust me there are some gems in there as well. I'm not digging through that many posts to prove it, I will post more if I come across them though.

Did you see the gallup poll ?

Here it is for others if they missed it :
