Then you haven't done anything with the NRA either or else you wouldn't make such an ignorant statement. The NRA is its membership LaPierre is just the face that needs changing. Yes, they raise money. Running training costs money, lobbying costs money, range building costs money. Money pays to get things done. Unfortunately WLP and friends have filched too much of it, but the NRA is useful, it gets things done. Destroying it is a win for nobody who supports gun rights and a massive victory for anti-gunners.
How much money comes in and how much money goes towards training ,ect.

If I gave you $100 to buy me lunch and you bought me a big mac and pocketed the other $90 to buy steak and lobster for yourself, how would i feel?

Of the 10s of millions that come i to the NRA every year...how much actually goes directly towards the beneficiaries on the ground?

Free? My life time membership was most certainly not free. My dinner guns were not free

I understand you need to pay up for good talent. WLP is not that.

The way people are talking about how money should be used is borderline communist. You're paying an organization for the service of lobbying. Why does everyone expect it to come free? If you had a monopoly, why would you not pay yourself well for the service you provide?

I disagree. When I pay for a service I expect value for my money. If a business can't provide that value, I look for a different service provider. That's fundamentally a free market system.

Monopolies are not free market, usually the opposite in that once there is no competition, they no longer have to provide quality service for the cost and in this way, monopolies are more akin to communism. I see the NRA as a monopolist here.

Someone needs to compete. Until then, here's your IBM.

But he's the only game in town really. He's the middle seat on the last flight out of town.
We use to think the same thing with public school. Or even the big three car companies. But we have school options and tesla

The NRA has been a one size fits all monopoly for too long. They are goingnto get a wake up call one way or the other

I agree that clearly not enough goes to what I think the NRA is supposed to do. I get that. I am not happy about that. I think we need to figure out a way to get Wayne LaPierre out of the NRA. I think that the NRA will be better and stronger once WLP and his gang is out. What I do not and never will support is the destruction of the NRA. because if that ever happens we will lose our gun rights forever.
Right now, we are in an election year with a candidate who literally wants to take our guns away. As flawed as the NRA is, it is still the biggest pro-gun organization we have
Is this really the best time to push for its destruction? Who benefits most from this in 2020?

You got us.

Your inability to have a rational discusion on the subject and resorting to the internet equivelent of "i know you are but what am I" has convinced everyone you are right.

Your intelectual capacity to make such a compelling arguement rooted in logic has everyone incapable of retorting.

We are democrats and socialists.

Dispite owning more firearms than your House or more like trailer is worth, we really just want ban them.

You got us.

Lol - THAT WAS FUNNY. So do we both whip ours out and measure now or is there another childlike way you typically settle things.

I understand (based on averages) that I am above "average" which really isn't much to brag about because average sucks so much, but you sir have just placed yourself into a category all of it's own that would be best described in part of the forum that must not be named.

I could go through my assets and compare to yours and then we could compare how old we both are in relation to our given assests, but that level of thinking is for pissants, since you seem to have the overwhelming experience in that manner, I default to your expertise.

Personally, I have always found material possessions to be a simpletons method of measuring wealth. However, material possessions are very enjoyable, they don't possess the scope or depth of value in human relationships or the value that is inherent to time invested in others. I mean, I have seen an awful lot of "well to do" people really be unhappy despite their best efforts to build wealth because the people around them developed less than desirable qualities while they were pursuing wealth. How much is someone with good character worth? Tough to say, though I have seen many people experience outcomes they would change if they could go back and do it over. To each there own.

The median house value in Seattle sure is stupendously high, if you owned guns to that market value (in regular times) I'd say, "wow." That would be a lot of guns. :)

New York going after the NRA in a big way. New York attorney general sues to dissolve the NRA

Probably won't be the death of them, but it will injure them. I quit supporting them six years ago due to their fud politics, failing to lobby, being more interested in trying to sell me scams and Wayne's generally lavish lifestyle. They failed to evolve and instead depend on rich old white dudes. They used to call my exs father when he had dementia and sold him 5 life memberships, even after we asked them not to call. No way to treat a WWII vet. Trump has been really waffling on the 2A during his administration. Way too unpredictable, remember he used to be a democrat and friend of Hillary Clinton. I feel our energies and money is best used elsewhere at this point. If the Russian connection is proven, I will be highly pissed but unsurprised. They don't have half the rights we do here and are not our friends. How quickly we forget the cold war. The NRA and Republicans both need to get their house in order or else this is just going to get uglier. They need to be lobbying the democrats if they actually care about 2A, heck probably some bipartisanship might get some votes. Its been a long time since any candidate for any office demonstrated they actually cared about what we elected them for. Democrats? Republicans? I've had enough of them.

Russian connection.... unsurprised... Whoa! You don't think if there was any credibility to that farce whatsoever the left wouldn't have been flying that banner like a macy's parade balloon forever! One side openly champions socialism and gun confiscation/bans, the other doesn't. If that isn't the easiest pick in the world then, whoa!

I doubt any real socialism will happen here. Rugged American individualism is far from dead, I think Socialism is a phase for many. Communism fell, its basic human nature to work hard and get ahead. At this point I want to sit back and watch the dogfight. I generally think neither party deserves its citizens at this point.

Ok - I have to object. Look at history and see many civilizations who fell pray to the concept of "it won't happen here." Assuming our nation is any different is dangerous arrogance that ignores what history has taught us. Communism never fell - it's merely a guise for a totalitarian ruling party rising to power selling itself as a way to prosperity for the peasants who don't know any better. Communism is still quite alive and well in other parts of the world and it is openly advocated for in this country by an increasing number of people. You have to realize that colleges have become indoctrination centers.

Rule #1 - Be excellent to each other

I highly recommend reading the forum rules, we all have to abide by them... Period...'

Funny that. I think if 2020 has taught me anything its that anything is possible. Many of the people I went to college with now own guns who were very against it during college. I guess maybe it was because I was in Maine, those yankees think a little differently about things. Most of them would appreciate a fiscally conservative person in office. I guess I'm just too libertarian in my own way, do whatever you want with your life and stop spending my money on things that do not matter. My taxes went up substantially under Trump. Honestly, I came out of college more conservative than I went in. Maybe that critical thinking class backfired, who knows. Honestly it is starting to feel like people want a totalitarian regime here. I don't get it, but when both parties are after my rights in one arena or another it is hard not to get disillusioned and pick and choose your battles more carefully. Remain watchful but if the worst of society wants to weaken themselves before trying something stupid I'm ok with that.

Can you cut WLP and company out of the NRA and it still stand on its own two feet. Ornare they one in the same?
They are not one and the same. He is the face of the NRA, not its heart.
Right now with the election cycle going is not a good time to throw the NRA into turmoil, which is precisely why that hAG pulled her stunt.
I'm pretty sure that if Trump wins WLP keeps his seat. If Trump loses WLP takes his money and retires to Bimini and the NRA will struggle on but at least we will have our leadership change.

The NRA could not care less about what you think.

I couldn't care less about what you say. This is how it appears to me: whine, blah blah, moan, point point point, blah blah.

When are you actually going to DO something about it? For every hard fighting, 2A activist, there are hundreds if not thousands of empty coulda woulda shouldas just like you. Gun owners like this do more damage than Bloomberg and Soros combined.

Well, that and LARPing tacti-tards with poor trigger discipline...
