If the reports are to be believed, then we can make some assumptions about those on the no-fly list and their association with Islamic extremism. Anyone think it's ironic that lawmakers and civil rights leaders are staging a sit-in to deprive Muslims of their constitutional rights?

It turns out that the no fly list has 81,000 names, but only about 1,000 are US citizens:
..

Perhaps the original intent was that since US laws are not in place around the world, yet, that if someone was flying in the ME or Europe, and wanted to come to the USA, the list would say - nope not allowed. Why that would not apply to any border crossing would be beyond me. Fly to Canada, drive over the Rainbow bridge (an actual thing @ Niagara Falls)

So why then have a list?

As for the citizens, I agree with 3MTA, the FBI should be able to run down a thousand people. So why are they on a list? If they are a danger while flying, then why are they out of the control of the prison system / mental health system?

John Lewis, leader/instigator of yesterday's sit-in on the House floor has got to be the biggest hypocrite in this whole deal. He's pushing the No-Fly/No-Buy bill, but had this to say about the No-Fly list just a few years ago:

WASHINGTON – Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta says a mix up on a terrorist watch list is still wreaking havoc on his air travel five years after the problem arose.

The 11-term Democratic congressman wrote to the House Homeland Security Committee this week that he's still subjected to repeated airport searches and required to present multiple forms of identification. The problem persists even though Homeland Security recently gave him a letter to show airlines that was supposed to clear things up.

If it's still happening to a congressman, he wrote, "you can only imagine what the average American suffers."

"I have been trying to get off (this list) for years," he wrote. "It is wrong."

Lewis' travel hassles — along with those of other high-profile figures such as Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts
— began several years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, as the government quickly expanded its watch lists. Airline officials have told Lewis that extra security is triggered because someone with a similar name is under suspicion.

On one occasion, a flight attendant speaking on the loudspeaker called for Lewis to identify himself in mid-flight. The attendant asked for his driver's license and questioned him, he said.
(Bolds are mine)

It would be different if these guys were ignorant of the hassles brought down on people by these secret lists, but they aren't. They know damned well what being on one of these lists mean, especially when you land on one by mistake.

These people are shameless, thoughtless and care nothing for the rights of the people they supposedly represent.

If the numbers of people on the no-fly list that are non-US citizens is correct, then the conversation may well be more about non citizens buying guns. In case people are wondering how that can happen, here's a link to a NICS cheat sheet for FFLs. <broken link removed>

As we get deeper into the analysis, let's not forget that not a single one of the "mass murders" were or will be affected by existing or proposed laws. The commonality is that a person committed crimes.

You guys keep trying to make sense of these lists.

The lists are not for our benefit, and never were for our benefit. The lists make perfect sense from the point of view of the ruling class. Just another way to keep a boot on our neck. That's the proper way to look at them.

Most of us are very much aware of that. What we're going through now is a practice session for next spring. Getting some scar tissue built up for the "If you don't have the answer to why Cain slew Abel, then you must pay" red faced shouting from the libs.

It turns out that the no fly list has 81,000 names, but only about 1,000 are US citizens:
FBI no-fly list revealed: 81,000 names, but fewer than 1,000 are Americans (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jun/20/fbi-no-fly-list-revealed-81k-names-fewer-1k-us/)

Seems to me, if you aren't a US citizen and on this list you need to be deported, green card or not, until you can prove you aren't a threat. Now, that seems like actual common sense to me, and I would expect similar treatment were I in a foreign country.

This leaves us with the remaining US citizens, and I think investigating about a thousand people is within the means of the FBI or other agencies to determine if the person is a threat or doesn't belong on the list. If a threat, then effing follow up and bring charges.

See, you can have actual common sense in a gun control related issue.
Totally agree, but with the suspension of green card until the individual is properly vetted... Don't need them to try sneaking back in, cause we all know the governments computer systems communicate with each other so well...

Here is another example of a list - one the Left just loved </sarcasm>

Apparently our software does not support TIFF

It used to be that the colors for the 2 major parties would switch from election to election. Republicans have been Red for some time now. Red is the traditional color of socialists. Commies being Pink. This gave rise to the popular Baby Boomer trope: Better Dead than Red.

Well actually, this list was created by a journalist and the anti-communist persecution exploded in 1946 after republicans took both the house and senate. Not that that matters for gun control... but that info is right in the link you provided.

It turns out that the no fly list has 81,000 names, but only about 1,000 are US citizens:

I dunno guys... After Orlando there is now a major storm brewing and to be honest, I think the right stonewalling is going to make the left's retaliation worse against gun rights, I really do. 1.23% off this no-fly list is not a huge number, and when you consider the number of Americans on the list makes up 0.0003% of US citizens...

I think it's time for a concession. IF We as citizens can be provided a real path to both learning IF we are on this no-fly list, WHY we are on it and are given a CLEAR path of appeal, both in effort and in cost. The left is going to keep swinging... hard. And I'm sorry to say at this point there is zero chance of Hillary not winning the white house. Trump has just destroyed his own campaign. Better to make a workable compromise now than deal with an even more wrathful HRC POTUS later on our 2nd Amendment rights. And you better believe that it WILL be Hillary that wins.

No. The problem with concession is there is no ending point. It also signals to your opponents that you are willing to bend, thus evoking even more attacks.

This is not a discussion between two reasonable points of view, where some middle ground can be found and both sides left satisfied. Our opponents, those in the ruling class and the Ministry of Propaganda, are not being reasonable. They will be satisfied only with our complete surrender. You cannot have a reasonable discussion with tyrants.

You need to get a better understanding about how the human mind works.

Well, sure you can. You just gotta say what they want you to say, and believe that what they want you believe is reasonable to be reasonable. Of course, if you value freedom you wouldn't do that to begin with, but the ones who want your guns don't care about freedom.

Obamas political response to Brexit and the Democratic Congressional sit-in are examples of how leaders react to votes of the great unwashed. They are essentially saying that the votes don't really count because these people don't really know what's good for them. Only the leaders really know what's best, so they dismiss the votes of the petulant children. They continue to diminish and ridicule the will of the people that refuse to pay them homage.
