The Walmart I frequent is a guns are welcome store or I wouldn't go in it.
Many banks are pro-gun and doctors offices though most of the hospitals are now no guns welcome.
Except for a few rainbow, lefty stores like whole foods, most stores of all kinds are guns are welcome businesses where I live.

The wife and I have lot's of doctor visits, and I am noticing all the no guns signs...

My favorite family doctor was a pro-gun guy.
He loved trap shooting.
When I'd go to see him, with a big grin on his face, he'd always ask me: Are you carrying and I'd respond 'always'. Both of us would grin like a couple of idgits....
When obamy came along with his socialist med plan, my doc thoroughly disgusted, quit practicing, got an MBA and went into another business.

Reminds me of a visit to my wife's Oncologist. Somehow it came out I like to target shoot. He says he likes shooting too. I ask what's his favorite caliber. He says, "I'm not caliber specific."
My wife acts confused, I turn to her and say, "He competes in three-gun." Turns out, I was spot on.

The story is correct that if it was stopped by some citizen with his gun, the press will ignore at least that part of it. from the description here it sounds a lot like it was some kind of domestic situation.
