For the most part, this list show up at the beginning of the year before manufacturers have a chance to re-up. Kinda gets them off their butts.

To clarify, the list determines what folks can legally buy. It's not about ownership, and there are other ways to legally own guns not on this list in CA.

If you don't pay recurring fee , model is removed from approved list. Isn't it called extortion to have to pay or you will be shut down/arrested?

"Whether this was done by the State because of "safety reasons" or by the parent companies not paying the certification maintenance fees is not known at this time but it does make it illegal to offer these items for sale in the State of California outside of a private sale."

Not really. The "Safe Handgun Roster" is the list of models that are legal for an FFL to bring in and sell to a citizen who is not a "special" person. To get on the list a pistol has to meet certain guidelines and the manufacturer has to submit samples and pay a fee to have the model listed. Want the 4" and the 6" 686 listed? Those are separate firearms. Want the black and fde versions listed? Separate guns, separate examples and separate fees.

If one moves to CA and has a pistol, one can sell it CA resident to CA resident. Other loopholes exist.

It's a ridiculous list. The Glock 19 can only be had in gen 3, because gen 3 is grandfathered in and gen 4 can't pass the new standards.

The guns that fell off the list are probably mostly limited production or old models.
