Excerpt from article "Democrats against the bill pointed out law enforcement groups are largely opposed to it out of concern it will cause more gun violence.
Sen. Royce Duplessis, D-New Orleans, read aloud a letter the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police sent to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell regarding Miguez's proposal.
"Permitless concealed carry undermines both the safety of law enforcement officers and the general public," the letter stated.
Duplessis emphasized a part of the letter that stated the proposal would create significant challenges for law enforcement in the field who often need to quickly and easily verify whether an individual is carrying a firearm legally."
