I was not happy when I heard about this on the radio. I get victims are sad/mad, but unintended consequences will hurt us all. More and more businesses with enough to lose will see this ruling and declare gun-free-zones and/or disassociate themselves financially from gun manufacturers (ie. echoing a lot of the signaling you see in big box stores now). Currently, that's the 'safest' option with the least liability (for them), where they appear to be doing 'due diligence'. It won't do anything to protect citizens, of course - just the business... at least until maybe...

The only way to defeat this type of downward spiral is to make it worse liability-wise for the business to stifle self-protection. As others have mentioned, we'll see some mentalities (and policies) change when enough people are able to sue gun-free-zone businesses when armed citizens could have done anything to prevent it or mitigate the damage. When businesses see how much it costs to provide armed security (and then people still get hurt/killed like in Gilroy), maybe you'll see more people putting up the classic signs of: "Welcome... Please keep your weapons holstered, but should the need arise for their use, accurate shot placement is appreciated."

Many places have stopped allowing guns in their hotels, motels and even on private campgrounds. Yeah, I said CAMPGROUNDS! LOL That goes for some MT and ID PRIVATE campgrounds too! I have not checked WY but nothing would shock me there now either. Places where you can get a HOT SHOWER. Oh well.

I found out about some of them many years ago when I was LOOKING at property ALL over MT, parts of ID - panhandle and a bit in WY.

I do not visit those places.

They did this NO GUN ZONE DEAL long BEFORE the LV shooting, some right after the shooting and some later on.

I do NOT believe the official, flip flopping LV report. (Other threads.) That is one specific case that I followed right when it was happening since I was up and awake when the news broke. I followed it for over one year too.
The hotel or corporation should not have settled and it was not their fault. They want it to go away because the OFFICIAL STORY does not add up. Why? There is a cover up in more ways than one. You can laugh at me - no problem. Plus hotel shares or hotel stocks were played around with RIGHT BEFORE and/or right after the shooting happened. That is a fact. NOT so called fake news. (It reminds me of many other crimes too. But I will not GO there now!)

There was NO one lone gun man and if you believe that salami story - more power to you! LOL

I have traveled in the past with MANY (15 or so.) guns. Former guns of mine now.

Mainly handguns and 3 rifles, ALL bought NIB by me from back east - late 90's and on.

This was when I moved out west, over 2,000 miles one way, and I was nice and LEGAL. I used a LUGGAGE CART since I did NOT want guns left in the SUV or in a closed up pop up camper no matter how well I had them ALL LOCKED UP.

Many of us have traveled with more than 2 or 3 guns PER person when we traveled in and out of our home state no matter where we lived at the time and we were LEGAL and going to or from various events or when on vacation. We camped and stayed in various places with ZERO issues.

There were places where I carried ZERO GUNS because of where I went to because I did NOT TRUST some states and because I needed to get some SLEEP on a long trip.

When I traveled in the past - I always checked the state, the national or state forest, any hotel or motel that I might consider using, etc.

Remember this business relies on a long term continual stream of customers. Lingering reminders of the tragedy that might come about via long term legal battles would do a lot of long term damage to their cash flow.

This was probably their fastest way to get it behind them (PR-wise I mean) in terms of customers coming to that particular casino or not. Of course it's going to take a long time anyway but poeple have a surprisingly short memory these days.

Coroners report never id'ed victim injuries with ballistics taken in evidence. ?

A lone man fired over 500 rounds with a better than 75% hit ratio in 13 minutes from over 300+ - 500 yards away using both 7.62 and 5.56?

Why all those rifles? Why bring bolt guns?

Way too many questions - but if you stop asking, we'll give you money.
Did they ever find the shooter? I forgot. And 1 guy could only do that if he was a military trained sniper. Maybe

Not at all. They nailed his but after a short gun battle. As for being a sniper, no!! He had a lofted position with a very crowded area below... he rained down bullets, spraying the crowd without aiming. If he had aimed, a lot more would have been killed vs injured. The massive number of wounded was because there was no way to get away from the field of fire! He changed out 100rd mags and kept on rockin...

One guy as the report says. But that's a lot of people shot. His think they would of scattered fast.

His think they would of scattered fast.

According to reports, they did. But when you are hemmed in by many 1000s of other people, how fast can you clear? (22,000 attendees) Also according to reports, there was no place to go. They were fenced in... as is typical for most outdoor concerts.

Now you have gotten to why the settlement.

Maybe... it's hard to say what the lawyers theory of liability was... whether it was the concert venue that had been successfully used for 20yrs or if it was Paddock having lugged 7 gun cases and untold boxes of ammo to his room, which was then never serviced. Or maybe it was as was said above, just a way to get it over with.

The lawyers smelled the money. Win or lose, the law---yers always get payed, you know, its all about the money!
The lawyers for MGM and the insurer did not smell any money, other than the millions in income they were giving up by recommending that their clients settle the case instead of defending it for two years.

I train at frontsight occasionally, I have stayed on the Las Vegas strip in the past.( at the Bellagio resort.)When i check in and every day, when i drive out to Pharump I am packing alot of cases, duffle bags, packs, to and from my rental car. The hotel staff and valet know whats up,There are alot of other folks that do the same thing. Sounds like there will be possible issues with training there in the future if you stay in Vegas.

They were 1 of 2 promoters of the event. There have been these types of suits against entertainment promoters many times over the years where exits have been blocked or not clearly marked during an emergency. While many news outlets claim the suit (which MGM countersued) was about allowing "all those guns" in their establishment, I would say their sponsorship of the event was a primary reason for settling even if that were true. This will be probably the 1st of several suits. I don't know if Live Nation (ticket master), the other promoter will be next, but if I was a lawyer...
