We up here in Washington cannot legally own an "assault weapon", Oregonians can.
To be clear, some snowflakes definition shouldn't be generalized with MG's or otherwise brother.

Shoot, the word "automatic" doesn't seem to fit in with WA lingo. I carry an Infidel daily. Up there? Nope.

Just saying you CAN own gun with a made up term like assault weapon in WA. No recent laws passed that prevented it.EXACTLY my point....

OP, YES, why ask the gents in 1791 they wrote it because there was a threat to not be armed/disarmament
Simple as that, not any more complicated.
Basic Cause and Effect. The Cause, Tyrannical Gov wanted our guns, effect......we shot them, and kept us guns.
Still are, same reason.
While were not quite to the point of shooting tyrannical politicians YET, that day is going to come very soon! Sad, but that's exactly why our founding fathers included the 2nd with The specific 4 simple words, " SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" written in plane and simple English so that any one could read and understand it!

However, the majority of the time, it feels like those screaming "The Anti's are coming!!" are just as out of touch as those that scream "All guns are evil!!". Maybe it's a case of the boy who cried wolf or Chicken Little insisting the sky is falling, but the rhetoric is losing it's effectiveness on me.
+1. NRA Lifer, and you think they and the firearms manufactures are into fabricating things to "up their profits" ? No, that's what the Chicken Little People of the other side do. "Enjoy firearms for home defense." Have many home invasions? Some things smell fishy. Not very observant if you can't see the 600# gorilla in the room...and the death by 1K cuts being legislated into law every year. The old turnip truck routine is getting old... but it got all you guys chasing your tails again in useless "discussion". Three posts?Dude, seriously?
And that's exactly how it's being done. So in essence, the premise of your first post is correct, the 2nd ammendment itself is safe at the national level, at least for now. The antis are smart enough to know that that is a bridge too far. So they got grassroots and started from the other end. They focused on cities and counties with high concentration of .gov-lovers and used the "safety" argument because they know those lemmings will support anything if it's "for the children". Then they leveraged that to the county and state level. It's quite clever, really. No, not trolling. The idea was originally intended to cover a more national view of the Second Amendment as a whole. Although specific state instances, such as California, are the more likely culprits of how the Second Amendment would be gutted. What good does the intact Second Amendment do when all the states are restricted?
