On topic in the off topic forum? Bah!
Even "off topic" threads have topics. And this one ain't about Cardi B.
Off the rails? Why, were just hoppin on the ties!On topic in the off topic forum? Bah!
I also grew up in the Willamette Valley, both Portland and Salem, usually around W.U. or Monmouth, or P.S.U. and all the ladies were dressed nice young and old alike, same with Down Town Albany, Lebanon, and Sweet Home! And i'm almost 50!I am almost 70 and don't remember anything like that. Of course I live in the Willamette Valley.
That was gone ten years later when I was born, assuming it ever existed around Puget Sound outside of folks my grandparents' age.I also grew up in the Willamette Valley, both Portland and Salem, usually around W.U. or Monmouth, or P.S.U. and all the ladies were dressed nice young and old alike, same with Down Town Albany, Lebanon, and Sweet Home! This all disappeared in the late 70's and early 80's. Ask your wife or girlfriend or mom. That was gone ten years later when I was born, assuming it ever existed around Puget Sound outside of folks my grandparents' age.
Most of my social circle as a kid was my grandparents' age, as it happens... but my mother lives like a refugee from Slobovia. This all disappeared in the late 70's and early 80's. Ask your wife or girlfriend or mom.
Well said.I try hard not to confuse dressing classy with acting classy, they have never been an infallible indicator of a person's quality. Far too often, I've seen fine clothes stuffed with coarse people.
I agree just got been here for 3days now and it's a fricking zoooPeople used to dress up to get on a airplane. Now when you fly it's like everybody just stepped off the bus from New Jersey. Same thing with Las Vegas. It's like they let anybody into a casino now.
A house at 21!? How the bubblegum? I dont even have enough credit to put payments on an iphone none the less a privlaged bubblegum house!
As far as the topic is concerned, screw suits. When im "going out" i wear jeans boots white t and throw on my A2 jacket. Consequently thats also me "dressing up". Normaly youll find me in a carhart sweatshirt jeans and leather vans or leather chuck taylors. All stars remain the best looking shoes ever designed IMO.
Keep the clothes simple, plain colors and let the shoes shine

Hell, I am a member of the younger generation and I don't understand! It's like high schoolers like myself have become to lazy to rip their own jeans so they spend and extra $60 for a pair of jeans that has less material than my wranglers. WHY?!I have a LOT of trouble understanding why people today are so willing to pay $100.00+ for a pair of Jeans that are already full of Holes? Paying $100.00+ for the pair of Jeans is CRAZY to begin with but when they're already worn full of Holes, well...
I'm going for the late '60's---Viet Nam, protests, hippy culture, legal frequent abortion, welfare abuse, pres. Johnson, government official suicides, drugs. If this part of the state is any indication, by and large, yes it is. It is saddening to be sure that most people look like a train-wreck when out and have manners consistent with said appearance. I'm glad my parents and grandparents drummed into my head good manners and grooming. If they like it or not, my two wee ones are receiving the same training.
The odd thing is I can't really pinpoint when it changed in our society, though it was certainly within my lifetime. For that matter, I can't figure out the "why" either. But something did change.
