Comment from a gun friend who works in a 'fringe' WA State agency doing some healthcare stuff:

Heard through public health - Inslee and Ferguson expected to announce new gun bill this week (maybe today). Will include permit-to-purchase requirements; semi-automatic weapon ban; other misc restrictions. Note: "semi-automatic weapon" in WA seems to mean "semi-automatic rifle" so this should be interesting.


My additional thoughts. May be a ban on new purchases and sales, grandfathered on existing. Doesn't sound like a ban on ammo.

The "common sense" gun laws we need aren't even gun laws...
That's what's sad, is instead of finding a way to help people with our tax dollars (as well as prosecuting criminals instead of letting them re-offend), our gov't is finding ways to make everyone's' life harder.

They lost me on this press conference once it was all about "feelings". Ferguson trying to act like he has emotions almost made me shoot my coffee out of my nose

Clarified: Mass shootings are almost always completed by "mentally ill" people that commit crime; straight criminals do not do this type of work, but for gang-to-gang shooting.

Very true. I was more just referencing it was a decision made. If we actually took care of our mentally ill, they would be more likely to make sound decisions. I've got personal experience dealing with this stuff (non-firearm related), and it's heartbreaking how little is in place to help. You do something in a compromised mental state, go to jail, get given meds which may or may not make you worse, and get released to the public in possibly worse shape than when you were arrested.

Yet our government chooses to spend money on things that don't go to the betterment of society. Just "common sense" laws that accomplish nothing towards actually solving anything

There are 20, 000 or so firearm laws in the United States.
Most of them can be boiled down to :
"You can't own or do this ."
How would yet another law of this type do anything to curtail crime and or keep people safe....?

If you want the same results ...keep on doing as you always have done.
In this case , toss out yet another worthless firearm law out there.
If you want different results , you need to do something different.

I would suggest :
Revamping our mental health care system....
Enforcing existing laws ...
Focusing on criminals , instead of law abiding firearm owners...

What about the part where they talked about going after and banning all "assault rifles"? Remember a few years ago when they redefined what an "assault rifle" was? Every single semi-auto rifle, excluding shotguns, are now classified as "assault rifles" under Washington's definition. Ruger 10/22's, Marlin 60's, et al.

Or the part where they are going to pass legislation to make it legal to sue firearm manufacturers AND retailers?

I thing he got worked up watching all the authoritarian gun control porn coming out of oregon. Stick him in an ice cold shower for a couple of years and he will get over it.

Trudeau is trying to do the same thing in Canada. Its happening all over North America like some litmus test to see how far they can erode firearms rights.

Law abiding gun owners aren't committing these crimes. Its the major cities like Portland and Seattle that have all these issues. They refused to prosecute criminals and defunded their police force, yet at the same token use surge in crime as a pretext to pose as some savior.

Hmmm....
Well If I did send mine....
It probably wouldn't result in a visit from some not so friendly folks in suits with guns and such.
The irony of course is that these same guns that the not so friendly folk have..are the same ones that Inslee wants to ban....
