That and without the Great Compromise that resulted in both the Electoral College and the apportionment of the Legislature we would have had the United States of New York and New Jersey. None of the rest would have joined a union that would leave them powerless and unrepresented. We would have been part of a Canadian Province, The Southwest would be Northern Mexico, and the Southern States would still be part of the Confederacy.

All a moot point, because without the United States we became, either the Nazi's or the Soviets would be our bosses as I write this. So, for the urban areas of the West Coast nothing much would be different.

Thats what the founders intended. The Presidential election was never meant to be by popular vote. The electoral college give power to the lower population states instead of letting more powerful states trample all over them. .
